oil change

Alright so I just did an oil change on my G. Drained all the oil from pan and filter than put the new one on. I pour in the new oil from a 5 QT container and I didn't even use all of the oil in the 5 Qt container. When I went for the reading on the oil stick, it was all the way up on the stick and was no where near the L and H. Anyone know what might be causing this? I would wipe it and re-read it but I get the same result.

4.8QT I wana say is what my 05 AT Coupe took last week... After pouring in oil you've gotta give it time to settle and drip down otherwise you get bad reads from your dip stick. This is at least what happens to me, I wont get a good read until an hour later and after I have driven around for a mile or so.

I just dump all 5 in and call it a day. Check the oil while parked in the garage before starting it up the following morning.

check oil "hot" tire cold. The dip stick is a pita. My routine is to have my '03 G35 sedan Infiniti dealer serviced with no issues. I now use Pensoil Platinum and oem filters. I have ever record of every service for the last five years I've owned the vehicle. I'm the second owner and he had it dealer serviced. I have 145,000 kms, 42,000 kms in the last five years. I prefer to pay dealer service charges and have Infiniti techs work on my vehicle. They have always treated me fine and I'm allowed to buy my oil and anything else I need on line and bring it in. They just installed Hawk pads alround and put my snows on, (on rims) no charge. I've had none of so many of the issues I read on this forum with my G35. Maybe I'm just lucky and I don't drive that many kms per year. I follow the owner's manual and deal with the fluids accordingly. It's a fine family car and I have, so far, no complaints or regrets re buying this vehicle. But, as I've written in the past, I prefer to ride than to drive and spend more time on my CBR than in my G. Also, fwitsw, I'm retired and do a lot of walking and hanging out. I use this site to research products, find oem parts at a better price than in Canada, and remind myself not to waste my money on tarting up my G. Better spent on prepping my grandkids for a good future. Cheers.
