Replacing rod bearings on 05 G35 6MT without pulling engine

Hey guys, so just as the title says I'm trying to replace a spent rod bearing and am having trouble getting to the upper oil pan. My question is how to drop the oil pan to access it/if it's even possible to do so?

Thanks!

I haven't done it yet but you should be able to support the motor from the top and drop the front subframe and crossmember.

yup - you will need to have an engine hoist of some sort to support the engine from the top to do it this way

So, what I ended up doing was jacking the engine and supporting it with the transmission while I dropped the subframe, removed the starter, ac compressor, then dropped the crossmember. Total pain in the *** and I would NOT recommend going at it like this, but I saved myself some cash so that's always a plus.

It's a waste of time to throw rod bearings in something that has already spun one. By the time you notice oil pressure drop or hear knock the surfaces are already damaged. Most likely the rod and crank need repaired and or replaced.

Rod bearings

I tend to agree. I did this on an 08 G35 to buy time in order to find another engine. My son has been driving it for about a month with the new bearings. Unfortunately rod #5 had slightly ovaled when it spun so we knew it was a short term fix. Still runs fine. Has a rattle above 3k rpm. We just got a junk yard engine for it.
