on another note...

i try to refill the radiator today after it was overflowing quite a bit yesterday after 1st bleeding. i did not have to put a lot of coolant in. it was minimal. the reservoir, the coolant was 1 inch or less below the Min line. normally it is halfway between Max & Min

i am hoping some air had gotten out after the overflow & massive bubbles.

- bleeder screw: this is my 1st time see the way you do yours. i normally see loose until the coolant squirt out. i try not to mess w/ the bleeder screw so I do not know how it goes.

- step 4: not sure what we are trying to do here w/ starting & shutting down the engine. i have the napa funnel to assist w/ the bleeding.

i am in houston (C.S.T). i am looking to attempt to do the bleeding again in the morning. if you can PM your number & i can call you to discuss the process if you have time.

thanks again for your input
Air bubbles most easily escape through the bleeder screw. I'm pretty sure it's a vital part of bleeding the system. You want to occasionally loosen it during the bleeding process to remove as much air as possible even with the use of a funnel over the radiator cap.

Step 4 is to lessen the chance of having a repeat of what you experience before with the "volcano". What you saw was not air bubbles leaving the system but air being made in the cooling system as a result of the coolant boiling.

The reason why that is happening is because the t-stat is not opening and allowing the coolant to circulate therefore, overheating the coolant and boiling over.

When you shut the car off BEFORE it boils over, you are allowing the heat to spread in the motor and reach the t-stat in effort to get the t-stat to open up when either the engine is off or soon after starting it back up after a short cool down.

Update..

over the weekend, i try the bleeding again..

sat: 1 person

bleed for about 1 hr. i rev rpm @ 2000 rpm. coolant in funnel didn't go down. couldn't see bubbles while i was reving but notice some bubble as soon as i let go of reving & check funnel. i did the reving about 3-4 times within the hour & reving for about 5 min. each time

sunday: 2 ppl

bleed for 30 min. 30 min into idle from cold, i rev the car @ 2000 rpm for about 5 min w/ my pop watching the funnel. he said it didn't see the bubbles but when i let go of the reving, i saw the bubble but coolant didn't go down. i did the reving 2 times & 5 min each & both produce the same result.

i tested & no overheating but coolant was still going to reservoir & passing the MAX line. i understand coolant goes there & get suck/vacuum back into engine.

Monday, took car to work (20 miles) no overheating. went home & as soon as i went into my neighborhood it overheated. check reservoir & it was to the top & some had leak out from the air hole on top of reservoir. it was little that leak out but reservoir was full.

Wednesday, check coolant level & reservoir (see picture). radiator level is fine but reservoir went down to that on the picture. it was at that level yesterday too.

the top red lines indicate the current level & the bottom is the MAX line. also purchased reservoir & radiator cap from dealership on monday.

i did purchase an engine block test but wanted to run this by to see if anyone has any inputs. thanks in advanced.

Update..

i purchased an engine block test (see pic) & did the test. bought at NAPA for about $30 - $40.

i couldn't find the drain plug from radiator (aftermarket one replaced 4 yrs ago). so i remove the upper hose to the radiator to release some coolant from radiator to do the test. i did the test & tested negative meaning no bad head gasket but while testing, i did about 2-3 times at 1 min but the coolant keep on coming up from radiator when doing test. i let engine cool down. remove upper hose again but this time not much coolant came out. did the test, this time was able to do test longer, about 4 times at 1-2 min. & test came back negative. i stopped because coolant was coming up again from radiator.

i decided to take it over to my friend shop & see what the issue is since i also have an oil leak. Think the oil leak is common as it is by the spark plug, valve cover o ring leaking.

Update on your G35 head gasket issue

Hi.

I own a 2004 G35 coupe manual tranny. My G35 has a similar problem, but also throw a lot of white smoke from exhaust.

Do you replace your head gaskets? If yes, how the car is doing?

I will appreciate your response.
