Dielectric grease
Dielectric grease
Alright so normally I use dielectric grease (Permatex) on my battery terminals and bulbs. I read online of people using it in places like the coil pack connectors or any other connection that may be exposed to the elements.
Does anyone use dielectric grease on any wiring harness connections? Would it be safe on the coil pack connections?

A dielectric grease is an insulator that has no conductive properties but keeps atmospheric gases from reacting with the contact metals (oxidation) on the connector or switch. I always put a little dab in all electrical connectors. I use the trucklite nyk greese everywhere on my cars and especially my bikes.
Since it is an insulator, it is not a good idea to put in high voltage applicaitons though, so do not put on coilpack connections or plugs, ect.
One thing thing I learned on my last Harley build. It is a real bitch to clean. I applied it to everything when assembling my bike, then when finished the headlight didnt work. I had to take apart all the connections to find the problem and it was a messy miserable job. Just make sure you dont plan on opening the connector for many years before you apply. (BTW after several hours searching, the problem ended up being defective load pack for led conversion FML)
