Very high RPMs at 65-80 A/T

Hey there good ppl I'm new here and need some help. I just recently got my first 05 G35 and love it. I'm now experiencing some type of issue with my car.

It had 144k miles and in great condition. But the check engine light came on when I was driving on the highway. When I hit 65 mph the RPM is around 4000 and around 70 - 80mph it hits 5000 plus RPM. It doesn't feel right and I have to drive in manumatic mode on the highway.

Does anyone know what can cause this so I can get it fixed ASAP I don't want to permanently damage the car. Thanks.

That's definitely too high, 80 for me is 3,100 and I'm in an 07 Coupe with 5A.

It sounds like you may not be getting out of at least 4th maybe 3rd gear. Listen/feel for the gear changes to make sure you make it to 5th.

I would check your tranny fluid level first, if you don't know if a drain & fill has been done, that may help. Do NOT have your fluid flushed with that high mileage.

Thank you for replying. I use drive in the city and manumatic on the highway. I'll definently check the fluid levels tomorrow before I leave for work. I will also make sure to not have the fluid flushed. But if it is low it's okay to add more to it?

Is Mobile 1 Synthetic oil a good choice for the g35?

It's ok to top off your fluid if it is low. Use Nissan matic s fluid only. Check to see if it's really dirty, has metal shavings etc. be sure to check it with your engine warm & running. Not trying to be a dikk, but I've seen people check it cold/off and end up over filling before (myself included)

As for oil, you'll get varying opinions but Mobil 1 is good stuff.

he said tranny fluid not engine oil. only use stock matic S or J fluid. (one was discontinued and cant remember which).
i would recommend taking it to a good trans shop and having it check out.

Right, I answered the question about tranny fluid and recommended only Nissan factory fluid.

Second question was regarding oil, or at least that's how I read it.

Agree with you...OP, if you're unsure or fluid level is fine, take it to a trans shop to get it checked out & good luck.

Yeah I was asking about the Engine oil separately. I use that in my 88 SS Monte Carlo too. Yesterday was the longest I've driven the car and the Check Engine Soon light went off. I don't know if its cause I drove it more or what but I'm guessing the problem has gone away. I still need to figure out why in the hell the RPMs are so high. Im taking it to a trans shop Friday I work 12-18 hour days and finally have the time off to do it.

Preciate yall replying yall have a Happy Thanksgiving.
