2004 G35 Startup clanking noise
Hey, first time poster here.
I have a 2004 G35 sedan with nearly 198,000km's. Ever since I got the car about a year ago it has made this noise on nearly every startup. The previous owner said it happened with him as well. As soon as I start the engine it makes this awful clicking noise for about 2 seconds and then goes away. After the initial click I don't hear anything else. I originally thought it was the timing chain tensioner, but I'm not sure.
My biggest worry right now is that this noise is doing horrific damage to my engine. Also, on cold winter mornings (-15 or colder) the car produces A LOT of white smoke for about 30 seconds and then it normalizes. When I say a lot, I mean like a thick barrel of pure white. As well, I have a bad case of oil consumption. I change my oil every 6 months and during that time I have periodically add ~3.5 litres of oil. I use 5w30.
Please, If anyone has heard of or experienced this issue, help me out.
Posted videos as well to show the noise on 2 different occasions. The temperature outside during these 2 videos was roughly 3C

Nobody replied to you sorry.
Here is the possible problems,
It could be the primary chain tensioner that is slacking slightly as the car does not have oil pressure when its off.
Guides can also be worn to the point that they don't provide the necessary tension.
When the pressure goes up then it creates tension as this is how the tensioners work.
Usually when timing chain components are worn or faulty enough there will be noise at all times.
The VQ35de is known to have this issue with the Intake cam sprockets.

That link is for altima and maxima. But it also plagues all VQ's as its the same engine,
The dealer will tell you its normal if you take it there.
A lot of folks just drive the car like this, as this is not something that will cause the car to jump timing if this is your problem
Now if your problem is in the timing chain components, then that is another story.
Good luck,
