Best Road to Accelleration?
Best Road to Accelleration?
Hi, I'm the proud owner of an '05 6MT Coupe and I'm gonna start doing some mods this summer. I've got about $10k to put into this car at the moment and I was wondering how to get the best acceleration. I'm looking for something in the 4.7 second range for 0-60. I was thinking shorter gears in back (3.17), a Stillen SC (for the torque), tuned ECU, and a grounding kit. That takes me down to ~$3k, what would be the best mods to put this towards? I'd like to keep it as streetable as possible as well. Thanks.
Are you doing this for the drag strip or just for your own pleasure and bragging rights?
If it's for the drag strip the most important thing would be slicks or drag radials for traction. Then you can add other things you mentioned like a shorter final drive, lighter flywheel and clutch, clutch type lsd, and FI. Not sure with even all that you could get a 4.7 0-60 but you could get close. And oh yeah, practice your launching technique too.

It's for the strip, I'm not some d*mn fool kid lookin for cheap thrills
. I make my home in LA, as I've noticed many here also do, and I'd like to meet some of them at LACR or Pomona sometime. Not as in, like, a challenge, but it seems most of the strip racers here know their stuff and I'm definitely down for lectures on why I lost to them.
Anywho, thanks for the info. I've got my street rubber picked out, but any advice on good rear tire/rim combos (sizes, brands, whatever) for the strip? I used to be a muscle car guy so I instantly think of 19" wide Mickey Thompsons, but I figure there's something better for this application. Also a good flywheel/clutch company? And... well, brand recommendations of any sort are welcome, demanded even. Thanks again.

in addition to the mods you mentioned, i would recommend headers and exhaust, pulleys, and lightweight flywheel & clutch. wouldnt hurt to sure up the suspension either. other members of this board have 1000 times more knowledge than me, though.

DrPJM1, if I can get both of those cars for 10 grand I'll do it. I already own and love my G so my budget isn't starting off at 45,000. Perhaps later in life I'll get myself a Supra, but that's not in the cards right now

I'd do that if I had the time and enough money for a TT, but that's too much for me. I'm not looking to rebuild the engine, not yet at least. I don't want to jump from stock to strip-beast in one go, I'm looking more for a transition stage.
