Most "Viscous" diffs will be well worn by 80-100K

Its a series of plates that lock together with the help of a special viscous oil. The plates wear out and no longer work. They're actually pretty well worn at around 60k miles and mostly work as an open differential north of that.

The oil loses it friction properties and the plates get worn. Nothing to do but replace or rebuild.

There are three different kinds, a gear type, a friction plate clutch (like a wet clutch on a motorcycle) and the viscous type.

Best thing to do is just buy a helical differential and replace it. The VLSD will just wear out again, but a helical works very similarly, but with actual gears.

that's a new info. I did not know that about LVSD.
guess not I wont be looking into upgrading mine. Don't want to deal with another maintenance item. I'm pretty happy with mine, cant complain.
