I have aftermarket headers. Does a leak in the gasket between engine and headers will cause temperature to be higher? Also bad gas mileage? Also higher engine sound?
just fix it.
if you put anti-seize on the studs and bolts you can pull it off fix it and toss it back on in under an hour.
just remove the stud on the lower right and you can lower it right down.
Headers must be tightened down in sequence from the center out! If this wasn't done correctly you may have a blown gasket or warped headers, not what you wanted to hear! Both issues will make noise and have little to do with gas mileage...Gary
Yes, it sounds like the gaskets have blown out. Blown gaskets will make the exhaust sound funny, and affect gas mileage due to turbulence reducing the exhaust efficiency.
When I first got my car the headers had several loose nuts, gas mileage was bad, and I always smelled exhaust fumes in the car. it took a little bit of work to reach them on the passenger side, but fix it, it's worth it.
