I have a 2005 g35 that just recently started to chatter only at start up, I don't believe it to be lifter related, if so wouldn't it chatter when driving and high rpm. Because if I were to drive and at high Rpm there no noise or anything it's nice smooth and quiet even at idle. But only when I start the engine there's a pretty loud chatter that I feel like could be coming from timing chain? Any help on what it could be or to fix. I have a video of the sound but not sure if it can be posted. I've listened all around the engine and doesn't seem to be coming from the top end.

 

Are you referring to the 2 second or less chatter at start up in the morning? Nothing to be concerned about, that's just VDC wake up noise...Gary

 

I'm not sure. It's not a very long chatter, it's only when the rpms peak at startup but it's loud and sounds awful. Also forgot to mention I got an oil change like not even a month before this started happening. I've always kinda a heard a weird chatter at start up I think it may be what your talking about but this sounds completely worse and different.

 

No it's not a nice sound to hear unless you know what it is then you can ignore it, or try! Just for kicks check your oil level, you never know when some (want to be mechanic) forgets to fill your crankcase with enough oil...Gary
