Engine rattles when accelerating

it rattles during a cold startup. Then noise goes away when it's warm idling. It rattles when I accelerate past 2k rpms and stops when I let go of the gas. This is starting to scare me, please help. (2003 g35 coupe 5AT)

What kind of gas are you using? Could simply be detonation from low octane gas.

I'm using premium (91) all the time. My cel came up and the oil light blinked for a second and then vanished. Going to get it scanned and do an oil change. I will post my results later.

Don't you ever check your oil?

That rattle is from low oil not keeping up pressure for the timing chain tensioner. Briefly on cold start up is normal as the tensioner needs to build up pressure. When it does it while accelerating I know it's time to check my oil. Also if oil level is good, then I know it's time to change it, lol.

The dipstick on mine isn't good. The reading isn't accurate. I don't have the rev-up so I thought it wouldn't suck up oil as much.

I guess I got a good example when I picked up my 03 back in January. After a 1400 mile road trip with 8-10 passes on The Dragon, I was only 1/4 quart low, or less.

Scott's example is kind of a joke but it underscores a great point. ALL motors should have their oil checked every other gas fill-up to make sure they're good to go. It takes one minute and could be the difference between a blown engine and a happy one.

Hey guys, i have a quick question. When i drive my 2007 g35 sedan aggressively and stop at the lights it begins to rattle and the sounds coming from the back. i got the resonator removed and have magnaflow mufflers can that cause the problem? or is it something else?

Can definitely cause the problem, with the system cold jack up and support the rear, climb under and tug around on the exhaust system to see if anything is loose, pay attention to the hanger brackets to see if the supporting bushings are broken or any undercarriage damage from bottoming the car out. Also check each section of the exhaust for broken welds but you will almost always HEAR that kind of damage with the car running.

If you still can't find it YouTube search for the sound a broken muffler baffle makes, might be broken on the inside.
