Oil Pan Gasket Question

Car has an oil leak, I haven't diagnosed where. I bought a fel pro gasket from the parts house because it was cheap (only like $12) But then a video I seen the guy used rtv gasket maker on top and bottom of his fel pro.

Is that effective? Should I only use just the fel pro? just rtv gasket maker? both?

Lower or Upper pan? I just used the gasket with no RTV on my lower and it doesn't leak. If its an upper pan leak good luck.

Could use both....will just strengthen the seal.

im not sure if it’s even the pan gasket looking under the car from the front it’s coated. Could be the oil cooler maybe

Thats what the guy in the video did. I was reading through comments on his video and the guy who made it said his leaked so he removed it again and used only “the right stuff” gasket maker and it hasn’t leaked since.

Clean it real good with some brake cleaner, then get under it while it's running to see if you see where it's coming from

Permatex Ultra Grey makes the best gasket seal, it's highly flexible and will not ever crack, it's the product recommended in the FSM however it has one very BIG drawback, it requires a 24 hour cure time.

The fel-pro gasket can be installed and immediately driven.

Both have their time and place to use depending on whether the vehicle can sit for 24 hours while the Permatex cures, personally I always stick with the Permatex option because it's such a superior gasket, I also try to stay away from other brands because I have had such good experiences with Permatex Ultra Grey over the years but I'm sort of a brand loyalist, Permatex, Loctite, etc, I don't use other brands because those two provide consistent and excellent results.
