After years out of the seen I just picked up a grandma driven 2004 G35 Black/Tan in 6MT w/ 90,000 miles. Meticulously maintained with signs of age on paint. Cannot believe how well it runs!
After being one of the first to Lemon a Revup motor in my 35th Anniversary Z (see my former thread under 9kfever that is stickied over on my350z), I grabbed an 04.
After two supercharged s2000's and the partially built NA Z, it is time to finish what I started.
Looking forward to getting to know you all. First question I have is what she I look for in the diff bushing and what happens if it fails? Also, is there a thread for the shifter alignment? It had the clutch replaced and the shifter goes way beyond the line for fifth and sixth. Need to adjust that.

You don't even need to test for a blown rear diff bushing, with 90k on the clock it IS worn out and probably failed long ago even under grandma driving characteristics. The rubber is probably cracked, the oil probably ran out long ago so it won't even show signs of that anymore. It's hard on the differential one that bushing goes out, eventually it can cause the diff to fail so it's definitely something to replace. You can "feel" for it inside the vehicle when driving. Go about 20mph in 2nd gear, mash the gas then let off, then mash it again. Does it feel like something moving around in the rear, possibly also a clunking sound. Diff bushing is shot.
You can remove the shifter cover and peer down to see how it's mated to the transmission, it's possible something wasn't installed correctly or a bolt might be loose.
