I got the p0340 code and decided to replace both bank 1 and bank 2 at the same time, BUT the left cam position sensor I took off of the car is the EXACT SAME as the right cam position sensor. I didn't think too much of it and proceeded to installed the correct (angled) bank 2 sensor, but it turns out to be a slightly different connector that isn't compatible. Has anyone seen this before or did the previous owner splice in a bank 1 connector in place of the bank 2 connector? I can't get a good look at the harness since I haven't taken anything off (except the engine cover) to remove that sensor. I can't think of a reason the two sensors would be different, so I'm going down the path of getting a second bank 1 sensor to work with what I have. Is there any reason I shouldn't do this?
They are different, one has an angled plug, one has a straight plug. Look at this picture, if you don't have the Rev-Up motor then ignore the exhaust cam sensors.
2005-2007 6MT coupes and 2005-2006 6MT sedans came with the "rev-up" motor from the above picture. The extra exhaust cam sensors are the same as the intake sensor on the opposite bank. Good way to troubleshoot if the sensor is actually the problem is by swapping the cam sensor to see if the code changes to the opposite cam of the opposite bank.
Non-revup motors only had the two intake sensors, one straight and one angled.
So I had to take over another persons work on an engine rebuild and the dumba$$ didn’t label anything. So thank so much for this picture as I was going bat 💩 crazy as to why I had no spark. Well I had bank 2 sensors switched. So once I corrected that issue There was spark and she started right up! Just gotta do some minor tweaking and I can start breaking her in.
Well it's not my picture, I just reposted it. I think that pic came from @seymore4 maybe? That's where I saw the pic the first time anyways and yeah it sure is helpful. I have a copy of that pic saved in the same folder as my factory service manual
