Stillen High flow + Z tube.. Is it worth it?

Hey guys,

I am thinking of doing a Stillen box + z tube in the coupe..Is it worth the $280?

Thanks!

I am happy with mine, I did modify the stillen box a bit though. (allow more air from front of car, and sealed around the edges with pipe insulating foam (Thanks Tony for the idea - I was thinking about how I would do it when Tony suggested that)

Really the Stillen box and z-tube were the first two mods I did.
- I honestly can't say I felt much of a difference, but others have posted dynos showing a few HP with the z-tube alone.

- I would suspect they help at high end, and likely help more since I have a plenum spacer now also.

- it will absolutely add some sound - not bad, but louder, and at high revs, or WOT you will certainly hear some induction noise.

IMO, save your money. If you want to save some low-end torque just get a K&N drop in and save money for a plenum.

Can you just put a cone filter on with the stock box or no?

No, you can not put a cone filter on a stock box.
Stillen CAI is garbage(no offense to anyone that has one. I just got rid of mine last week), the only cool thing about it is the whistling sound your car will make as you accelerate.
Other than that, you will lose low end power with most CAI's.

Repeating what Xman said, just go with the kand n drop in and the ztube.
Use your cash on those products. Maybe you can buy your self a plenum spacer or plenum with your leftover cash.

well I would absolutely get a plenum spacer or plenum

But (and maybe it varies) I didn't lose any lowend with the stillen.
certainly nothing I can feel.

Of course I see it as a who cares kinda mod....
after I get my cats in, I will have to go back and forth with the stillen and stick box w/K&N and see if I can tell low end - high end diffs ?

I had my Stillen air box put on after reading all of the worries about possible low-end loss here... so I was certainly paying attention. Was also worried about potential heat soak issues (especially here in Texas). Happy to say I've noticed neither of these after the fact.

Butt-dyno tells me there is a little more pull when you're moving. A good thing since most of my drive is highway driving here.

I could do without the acceleration whisltle (remoinds me of a blowoff'ish sound... just happens at the wrong time... pedal down instead of letting off), but the combination does sound downright mean at 4K RPM and upwards.

$200 for the box is very steep, obviously. The Z-Tube can probably be found from some 350Z owner replacing his stock setup... do a little bit of looking around before you drop the $80 on a plastic tube if you're looking to save some cash. Maybe try my350z.com.

I'm more than happy with the k&n drop in and a z-tube. I also like that my engine looks stock, even with the 3/8 MD plenum spacer.

I can't speak for others of course, but my car did not like it at all.
From idle to 3000rpm, my car was struggling with the Stillen CAI.

The day that I had my 1/2" spacer installed, I had put my stock box w/ paper filter back on the night before. On my way to dyno day (2.19 dyno day) I already noticed that acceleration off the line had improved already.

After my spacer install(and ecu reset) my car was(and is still) taking off like a bat out of hell. Mind you, this is w/ stock box and OEM paper filter, in the rain nonetheless.

Since I already paid for my stillen, I figured I want to see how the CAI and the spacer would run. I should have followed my instincts and not re install that POS again, my car was struggling once again from idle to 3k rpm.
With the CAI still installed, I reset the ecu and installed some megan racing test pipes. My car ran and sounded so bad.

I was going to remove my test pipes, but I figured, let me see how the car reacts with the drop in before I do anything really drastic...

And they lived happily ever after.

I have this exact combo and I don't think it's worth the money or the noise. Just buy the K&N panel filter and drop it in the stock box.

I would recommend the TS reflash as that along with the GroundingGear and HKS exhaust gave me the most improvement.
