Talking Throttle Body Cleaning without Disconnecting! Works Perfectly!

hey guys, I haven't posted in forever and a bunch of years. But I just did a tuneup on my 2007 g35 coupe 6mt with new NGK Iridium spark plugs (using the DIY guide on this forum) and I also cleaned the throttle body without disconnecting it at all. I put the key in the accessory postion, all the way to the right, put the car in first gear, and had someone hold the gas pedal fully down while I cleaned the throttle body using a toothbrush, CRC Throttle body cleaner, and a ton of paper towels. It helped to wrap the paper towels around the toothbrush and spraying it with the cleaner before shoving it deep in the tube and cleaning it all out. I'm at 130k, bought the car new never cleaned the TB ever before and it was NASTY!!! TONS of nasty gunk, carbon, and fuel came out of that thing it was disgusting. The key is not disconnecting anything, I had ZERO problems did not have to mess with the ECU relearn or anything and my car is running LIKE BRAND NEW again!!!! Just wanted to share this.

Also, forgot to add. I did not touch the fragile butterfly valve or move it at all. I just cleaned around it and the car moved it when pressing the gas pedal down. Zero issues. pic of dirty tb attached

That's how I do it on our Toyota's, but haven't done it on the G35 yet as it still looked fairly clean the last time I was in there.

I prefer this method over removing it. It can just be a bit tricky getting all the carbon out without accidentally moving the butterfly valve.

Absolutely not. Use the toothbrush method, wrapped in paper towels, and spray the towels down really good with the CRC throttle body cleaner. you could even use rubber bands if you want to make it tighter, you won't touch the butterfly at all. I'm not sure why more people don't talk about this method, you don't need to scrub the color off the butterfly valve, that's just purely cosmetics which you will never see anyways since it's all covered up with the intake tube. Also, remember you need to do a complete 360 around the throttle body intake, the upper and lower and all around in circles to get it 100% cleaned. You don't even need to touch the butterfly at all to clean it properly.
