The G45...a G35 with a 4.5L v8? Anyone swap engines?

Just imagine how amazing the G35 would be if it had the new 4.5 L V8 under the hood. They would have to do some tinkering to get the weight bias right, but how difficult could it be?

And other than the $200k super tuner cars, has anyone done an engine swap for something bigger/different/unique? Not that I would ever do that, but it is interesting to think about.

I would also argue for a G45X sedan...just imagine what that could do to the likes of Audi....

The only engine swap I've seen is Top Secret's twin turbo 4.5L V-8 Skyline introduced at the 2005 Tokyo Auto Salon.

So, now that we know it can be done...

How much does the engine cost?

Pull it from a wrecked Q? Save some there.

Would you need a new tranny? More front support?

Sounding expensive quickly.

That 4.5 wont just bolt right in. Its a much much larger motor than the 3.5L V6. Why would you want that v8 anyways? Its only 40 more horsepower stock than the 3.5 not to mention they burn oil like you wouldnt believe. If I was gonna do a v8 swap it would be the 5.6L big boy. But honestly other than for being different or unique, I think it would be better to build up the v6.

might as well just buy something with a V8

there are alot of custom parts and labor involve with the top secret V35 GTR
the clutch was made by ORC specifically for this project. and lots of various other parts.

Buy a new corvette z06 it has 500 hp from the factory and all the torque you could want. and it would still be cheaper then buying an G and putting a v8 in it.

But it'd still be GM and still a Vette

I wouldnt go through the trouble of replacing my G35 engine with a V8 and i sure wouldnt buy a vette (insurance, expensive,no back seats, love to get stolen)

the new chrysler firepower will suit my need perfectly.

but to each his own...

The new Vette's are a world-class sports car any way you slice it. And the Z06 performance model is even better. If you want a V-8 you couldn't do much better at the same level of value over performance.

well what you should do is, clear a space in your garage, (a big one) and jack your car up, get one of those engine lifters, take ur motor and trans out, even if your not very mechanical, the hardest part is puttin gthat front end back together. then get a Q45 engine put it in there and see what needs to be made to fit. You can box the front of the frame. weld some brackets together, and there u go, piece of cake.

The tranny was taken from the Q parts bin so they should match up ....eventually. They are holding back on that thing too at 335hp. Not the max for that motor.

Why bother with a V8 when a FI can yield 400hp easy?
