The Stillen is very quiet, because of the inclosed filter box.

If it has absolutely no whistle/suction noise, then you may want to check and make sure the clamp holding the filter and intake tube together is tight.
Not in order to try and get the noise, but just to make sure it's not way too loose like mine was (you could spin the clamp with your hand). That clamp being loose is a much bigger problem than any noise you'd be hearing.

I have suction noise, but no whistle.

To me:
suction noise = no leak,
whistle = small leak some where

All 4 of my cars have large K&N cone filters. 2 JWT pops, 1 place racing CAI, and the Stillen, None whistle.

My experience with the Stillen intake is that it does whistle, but it was only audible with the windows down and under light acceleration from around 2.5k rpms to 4k rpms. Under hard acceleration all you get is a roar and I didn't notice any whistle when just cruising at highway speed. For the guys with no whistle: do you have a 350Z tube as well?

never heard anyone complain about the sound of the stillen intake on here. unless your just referring to the sound it makes as a whistle and you dont like it you most likely fudged up during install. but other than that i love my intake. top it off with z tube and upper pleneum

The whistling sound at part is common with all types of cone intake. I know the exact sound because my Maxima did it, my 94 Z28 did, and just about any other car I've riden in with a cone intake does it. It has nothing to do with improper install. The sound you're hearing is coming from the throttle body and throttle blade. The sound is not some loud high pitch whistle. It's very low pitch and pretty faint.

I have the stillen CAI w/the Z tube and i have noticed the whistle at around 2.5k rpms to 4 k rpms...and im pretty sure it is installed properly, cause i had it installed by my dealer, and got them to doubble check to make sure there were no leaks after the install because i did notice the whistling..they claimed that the whistling noise is normal...im glad to know that im not the only one on here that has noticed this whitling noise.

.... right. I didn't mean to infer that you should hear a whistle like you're whistling youself .... just a small "whistle'ish" sound like a blowoff (just on the opposite side of throttle usage obviously) when you hit the throttle, and usually only when you initially hit the throttle.

And yes, you would have to have your windows down and nothing else in the immediate area to hear it anyways.

Yep, I thought of the sound as a very faint turbo-like hiss.

i think the whistling noise you are referring to is the sound of suction like a high pitched vacuum but not quite a whistle

I have the Stillen CAI and its loud but I've never heard it whistle. The closest I've heard is when the pedal is stabed or for a fraction of a second when the engine is shut off. But certaintly never a steady state whistle.

I kinda wish I could hear this whistle sound. It's got me curious.

Shutting off: I got it also, after long highway driving at ca. 125 mph, when I hit the clutch, the rpm drop so low that the car stalls. I don't know however what is the additional role of the grounding kit in it (rpms dropping quicker after I installed it)

So much for that matter. I'm getting my K&N next week and replacing the stock box.

Random question??? Why are you leaving your foot on the clutch at 125 MPH?? I would say put the car in gear and let the clutch out, should do the trick...

I like the stillen intake, but i would just get a K&N drop in and call it a day and use the extra $150 to get loaded
