Aluminum Underdrive Pulleys

I'm getting a friend of mine to make up a lightweight underdrive pulley for me G

Compared to my friends GS-R tiburon ...he says mine looks heavier....hard to tell from looking ...either way he got almost 5 wheel horsepower.

I'm gonna dyno my car at the end of the week and then get the pulley put on and dyno it again...

we think it should come in over 5 horse

we'll see ...anyone else interested right off the bat?

later g's

You goin' with the crank, water pump, and alternator pulleys?
What's he gonna charge? Have you got a shorter serpentine belt for the new settup?

Re: Aluminum Underdrive Pulleys

Those things are risky. Since they do not have a harmonic dampener you might run into problems in the long run of the car. True it will release some of the parasitic drag from the crank to free HP, but any vibrations from the crank will not be taken lightly.

I would recommend on just getting the pullies for you acc. and not for the Crank.

Take it easy.

- Don't argue with idiots. They will bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.=P-

Re: Aluminum Underdrive Pulleys

The NVH increase by removing the harmonic balancer is so negligable on modern motors that it is not a concern. Externally balanced V8 sometimes had issues with removal of balancers, but the VG/VQ engines will not have any problems. The ASP crank pulley for the VG30DETT showed 17+whp gains. Granted that was an FI application, but if the weight of the stock crank pulley is similar, the gains will be close. The ASP pulley was a great addition to my 300ZX. Good luck with that Dally

Re: Aluminum Underdrive Pulleys

5 HP at the rear wheels would be pretty good. Ford used underdrive pulleys on the limited edition "Bullit" Mustang to raise the advertised HP from 260 to 265.
