Cutting Coupe engine cover to fit around Crawford Plenum
Well I finally cut the CF cover and I think it came out good, not great. I probably should have taken a little more time, but I have a tendency to rush things because I get impatient. I still have a little more tweaking to do. I started off by making a template very rough, out of thick carboard. I then trimmed it as close as possible I did this part with the plenum on the car and use the regular bolts that hold the engine cover as a guide so the cardboard wouldn't move. I also traced the shape of the plenum on a shirt box (thinner cardoboard) to get the exact pattern.
With the plenum on and the heavy carboard in position, i foun if you had big gaps, it was easy to use cheap photo paper to tape on the cardboard and fill in the gaps. When it hits the plenum, you bend/cut the paper away. Provides a snug fit. Tranfer this to the CF cover and cut. This will get you close but count on numerous trips back n forth to the car to fit and refit. I used a dremel with a cut off tool for the major cut and the sanding disk to finish it up. Oh I also used blue maskin tape ontop the CF cover to prevent chipping of the CF epoxy and for a cleaner cut.
Lemme know what you think.

Looks good. I did pretty much the same thing. The only thing I did different was use 8.5x11 paper taped together and tracked the plenum with a pen. Before that I tried to cover he plenum and make an outline with blue chalk. The only problem is that it didn't show up to good on the bottom of the engione cover. I still have some finishing work to do.
Yeah I futzed with that on the side (I relocated it as per Crawford directions) , but I def think you're right and it's causing it not to sit flush. I am sure I should figure that out before deciding to trim anymore! LOL
Unfortunately I was too impatient to take pics. It shouldn't make a difference which cover you have because it has to fit around the same area. All I can say is the template will not be perfect so you have to cut the major stuff away and then run back n forth to the car and keep test fitting the cover. I would reco a lil filter mask when you cut the CF. That dust gets everywhere!!! If ya like, I can try and trace my template and mail it to ya. PM if you are interested. It will get you close, but you will have to tweak it! If i send ya the template, I will take a close look at my CF Cover and tell you where wyou will probably need to trim more. I could probably take more photos of the different point along the cover as well which may give you a better idea too.
does anyone know if the 350z carbon fiber cover fits (or can be made to fit) the sedan? i have my original cover that i know i can dremel down, but i'd rather go with carbon fiber.
btw, i have a Crawford Cast Plenum (V5), if that makes any difference. i am good with a dremel, so the only thing that worries me is mounting holes matching up, or the oil filler spot not matching, or clearance issues and such.
