Cutting Coupe engine cover to fit around Crawford Plenum

Well, I've ordered another engine cover since I botched the existing one when I hacked it up to fit around the Crawford Performance plenum.

Here's the pic posted by Lou a while back of his custom cutting job. How did you measure and determine exactly where to cut? What type of saw did you use? I've already installed my plenum so I can't lay it on the engine cover and trace it... TIA!

Why don't you get a 350Z engine cover? You can remove the Nissan emblem and all you have to cut is the lower lip so it doesn't hit the fan. That's what I did and I really like the way it looks

this is where I ordered my CF 350Z cover. it should be her any day now. I don't know of the quality yet but will snap pix and post them once i receive it. It is the cheapest I found so far online for engine covers.

Hi ainsley

I first took a piece of cardboard and cut it roughly to shape, being careful to keep if oversize. Once I had it the way I wanted, I laid on the cover and marked the cover with marker. I then cut the cover with a dremel tool. As I said it was slightly oversize. I then trimmed it down in stages until it fit. Hope this helps.

Oh, and if you look at the left side, you'll see a bolt and cap that I added to the cover to keep the back bolted down. I turned one of the bolts on the plenum into a stud for mounting the cap.

BTW, IMO, the "Z" cover doesn't really fit the "G", because it contacts the center scoop. It's longer than the "Gs" scoop. The "Z" doesn't have the center scope.

Lou

I didn't have any Z cover fitment problems with either the stock upper collector (plenum) or with it modified to fit the Crawford V5.

I wish somebody sold a template. I've been wanting to do this but I don't want to screw it up.

G35Sean: I agree! I just came in from the garage after screwing up my second engine cover in a row. I messed up sawing the first one a few days ago. So I bought another and mis-measured the frickin' thing a little so it's crooked. It's not terrible, but not perfect like I wanted. So out of sheer stubbornness I'm going to get a third one and keep at it until one comes out beautifully. Son of *&%$^!!!!

DaveO: How exactly did you modify your Z engine cover to fit the Crawford plenum? Thanks.

If I ever get this right, I will create a template that can be downloaded and printed on paper or something like that!

I have also hesitated cutting the cover; I have a history of screwing up "simple" things. Help me by creating a template
