Dynoed my car today for fun and wow...

What small things you can do to get more HP from a stock car.

I went to visit a couple of my friends at Pann Auto here in San Diego. We were just talking and then they said that they just got their dyno like a couple weeks ago. It's a nice load type dyno. I was going excellent! They posed the question to me if they can use my car on the dyno to see how my car does (just for sheits and giggles). I smiled and threw the keys right at them and said go for it.

We strapped it up and did 8 runs. We learned that the best gear for the car is 4th by the 2nd run. From tweaking out the car (Turning off the stereo, lights, resetting the ECU ect ect.) the car went from 231RWHP to 246RWHP by the 6th ~8th run. I will post the sheets once I get them scanned tomorrow.

All I can say is, just from resetting the ECU it gave 5RWHP! So guys, reset your ECU. Also having the lights off and stereo frees up some HP too.

Take note that my car is completely stock for engine internals.

I will post the sheets tomorrow, but of course I have to recommend

Pann Automotive of San Diego.

They will beat any price out there! Trust me, they will do their best and they treat you like family.

How long does it take to reset the ECU and I assume you just have to remove the positive from the battery?

Remove the negative and some say press and hold the gas pedal for 30 seconds. I just disconnect overnight for 12 hours to make sure, but obviously when they dyoned it was not necessary.

Re: Dynoed my car today for fun and wow...

unfortunately, resetting your ECU is not a true measurement of your hp. for bragging rights, yeah go for it. but the car will relearn and re-adjust itself after a few miles. and im not so sure about the electronics needing to be off. they run off the alternator, and whether they are on or off, the alternator will still spin..........

Doc

You have been weighed.....You have been measured.....and you have been found WANTING!!!

G35 Coupe w/ K&N CAI
Re: Dynoed my car today for fun and wow...

Well, while it might be true that the alt still spins, there is such a thing as load. Just think of the AC, it still spins, but turn it on & see what happens. Granted, the alt is not a compressor, BUT we do have high wattage Bose systems, etc.. That draws a heavy load which can create drag on the alt, so I have no confirmation of a gain based on systes being off, BUT I will say this, I was one of the few who had his Coupe down at K & N in December for prototyping of their soon to be released CAI, & when they did dyno runs on my car, they shut off ALL the electronic in cabin systems..

Just my 2 cents..

Re: Dynoed my car today for fun and wow...

Ok here are some of my Dyno sheets, I'm tired so I didn't finsh them all but enjoy.

On 2nd run, we turned off headlights, stereo ect ect..
On the 3rd run we started using 4th gear.
On the 4th run we resetted the ECU by unplugging the bat for a bit.
5~7th runs we put up another fan in front of the car to give the feel of Freeway speeds. You'll notice a couple TQ spikes on the 246hp graph cuz one of my friends walked in front of the fans during the run... =(
