Airbage question

Here's a detailed airbag question:

My front airbag crash sensor (in front of radiator) had the wires ripped out of it, but the airbags never went off, but the airbag light on dash is on. I took it to the dealer and they said "by law they cannot repair the wires", but would have do to a complete wireharness change (so i'm going to probably repair the wires myself), but the dealer also said my main airbag control computer is damaged as a result of this and it would need changed also. They said any time the control unit senses a problem and tells the airbags to deploy it needs replaced (but my bags didn't ever deploy).

So my basic question is, do I need to replace the control module too?? Or, is it reading faulty due to the front sensor still being disconnected?? I figure it should be ok, since the bags never went off (or at least I hope it's ok for $770!)

Thanks for any input from the geniouses on the site

Do not let those wires touch ANYTHING! tale the positive cable off before working on it. I wuld try an fix it then once all it good put the cable back on and see if the light goes off.

The light probably won't go off by itself, but there is a way you can reset it... I'll go to the FAQ and see if I can link the procedure. If this procedure works, I'd say that everything is functioning properly once you've completed the repair. (but no guarantees )

Ok, i will try that procedure 1st thing before having the dealer reset it and buying the control unit. My airbag light isn't blinking (mine is on steady) but it might still work if everything else is working properly. I'll post an update after I try this...i'm very busy so i wont be able get to it right away. Only thing I have to do now is find the sensor wire connector or a wireharness somewhere that they are willing to breakup (since a new complete harness cost like $500!). Thanks guys!

When you first turn your car on, does the airbag light blink before staying on steady? If so, I had the same problem when I disconnected the passenger side airbag harness during the hepa-filter removal process. I didn't get the connection back together perfectly and I started the car...

Long story short, the airbag light came on and stayed on solid until I shut off the car. When I started the car back up it would flash for ~5 seconds and then it would come on solid (instead of going off like it's supposed to when everything's working right).

ECU reset and unplugging the battery won't help. You need to follow the procedure listed above. Good Luck.
