Re: Almost Killed GAS MAN!!!

Yeah, NJ sucks with gas. Stupid gas attendant put a decent scratch by the gas cap trying to get it in the tank.

You're not qualified to pump your own gas in New Jersey and Oregon. Are there any other states that require a highly trained union guy to operate the pump?

Re: Almost Killed GAS MAN!!!

Where do you live that you can get full service still? Are you Richy Rich or something. It must be $3.50 a gallon for full service. Cmon, just fill it yourself guys. This isn't 1982.

Re: Almost Killed GAS MAN!!!

Very informative article. I did not know this.
I have seen some full service pumps here in Texas,
but only the rich, old or disabled use them. They charge
like ten cents extra to have some idiot put the pump
nozzle in your car. I would not even consider using a full
service pump, even in the rain!

God I love this car!

Re: Almost Killed GAS MAN!!!

To those of you ******* this guy for not pumping his own gas -- READ THE REST OF THE THREAD!! In N.J and Oregon (where I am) you cannot, by law, pump your own gas. Do not be fooled into thinking this means "full service" in the old sense (check oil, clean windshield, check tires). Just somebody taking your card, pressing a button, inserting nozzle and pulling trigger. Also, I don't know about N.J., but in OR they are not union - just minimum wage workers. When I moved here from CA, I almost got in a fight with the guy when he goes "you can't pump your own gas." I go, "How the hell do you know? You've never seen me do it!" Then he explained that I was not ALLOWED to do it. "Ah. . ." Stupid law IMHO, but the old folks love it.

Re: Almost Killed GAS MAN!!!

Laws, who needs stinking laws. Personally I'd shove the pump down their throat, and make them drink some 87 octane.

No minimum wage illiterate gas jockey is putting his filth ridden hands on my car.

Really, what are they going to do about it if you just up and grab the pump and do it yourself? What a lame law. If they refuse or resist, it's pretty simple... skull crack them.

What happens when you get caught pumping you own gas in NJ or OR, do they execute you on the spot or what?

wow, backward? thats a bold statement.

I'd say that NJ is second only to CA in terms of backwards states. Any state that doesn't trust its citizens with firearms and GAS PUMPS are shitty backwards states in my opinion.

It is a shocker about not being allowed to pump your own gas though!

Re: Almost Killed GAS MAN!!!

I have no idea what would happen if I did it myself here in Oregon. I did get pissed one time because the attendant was slow, so I took the nozzle out myself (probably a 3-strike offense). Maybe one day I will try it. Will you fellow G'ers raise my bail if I thrown in gas station jail? I must say that the guys in Oregon FOR THE MOST PART are not too bad. I have seen guys be real careful opening the gas cover, and they understand the simple command "DO NOT TOP IT OFF, THANK YOU."

Re: Almost Killed GAS MAN!!!

Well i live in NJ and this sucks.. I had to cut the lil plastic wire that went from car to gas cover so they dont just drop it and scratych car as they did. I always make sure that they dooo not spill gas.. In my last car it happened and the guy spent 10 min and 3 bottles of water cleaning it!! Well iv burned 1/4 of that [censored] *** gas and cant get ride of it fast enough..

So it is not my fault thius has happened and thanx all for the support..

Re: Almost Killed GAS MAN!!!

Should be alright dude. If I were you I'd go in often and 'cut it' with premium to raise the tank octane. Only other thing you can do is like Dom said-- go buy a bottle of octane boost.

Man if I lived in NJ or anywhere that wouldn't let me pump my own fuel, I'd move. I don't think anyone else has ever pumped my gas. You guys should lobby for a change. One is due.
