How Do I Read ECU (CEL) Codes?
My CEL light came on today. The car has about 750 miles on it. I was teaching my wife how to drive a stick. She stalled it quite a few times, but the car was fine. We eventually got running and she tried shifting in to 1st somewhere between 10 & 15mph (my fault for not telling her not to every downshift to 1st). Anyway, the CEL came on after that. The RPMs didn't get up very high or anything like that.
Anyway, lesson learned. However, I want to know what the heck the code is without having to go to the dealer or go to Advance Auto Parts. In my 96 300ZX TT (ODBII) , you can put the ECU in a diagnostic mode to give you the error codes (flashes the CEL). How do you do this in the G?
Thanks
P.S. The car runs and sounds fine. She probalby knocked the gas cap loose or something stupid like that.

I found something on a 350z forum that told me how to read them. Basically it's half of the step to reset the ECU. I tried matching up the codes with the Infiniti OBDII codes, but I couldn't find them.
I'm getting 1084 and 1078.
1 long flash
10 short flashes
8 flashes
4 flashes
Then I get
1 long flash
10 short flashes
7 flashes
8 flashes
So what are these?
Thanks

So I dropped off the car today to get it check out. I was indeed right about the codes. So it seems that there are more codes out there that aren't published on the net or Infiniti changed or added new codes. The read out was:
EXH TIM SEN/CIR-B1 [P1078] and EXH TIM SEN/CIR-B2 [P1084]
The service manager is speculating that this is a O2 sensor issue. He thinks that they might have renamed them. He's going to give me a call back after they figure out what this is. No one at the shop knew and they've never seen this before. I'll post more info as I find out. Please feel free to reply if you have additional information. Now I'm off to research more.

You can buy an OBDII reader to pull the code. The cheapest way to go is with a hand held unit, but I got one online from www. obddiagnostics .com You need a laptop to hook it up, but for 90 bucks you get the reader and not only can you pull/reset the codes, but it also gives you other OBD info that comes out of the OBDII port.
