Re: EASY ECU RESETTING

What the above guy said was BASICALLY true . The system needs to see serveral drive cycles. A drive cycly consists of operating the vehicle until it reaches normal operating temperature. That is a drive cycle. It needs to measure how much fuel and air to send when it is cold all the way through to how hot it gets. Dont think too much about this. Just dribve the vehicle and enjoy it. By the way, I have been a techniocian with Infiniti for 13 of the 14 years they have been around. I am certified as a Master Technician. SOme of the replies I have seen on here are pretty much true. But there are things the normal person just wont know without access to Infiniti. The internet will tell you alot. And so will service manuals. But Infiniti has a whole data base full of things the average Joe will never know........Just a heads up, I dont come on here to argue with peeps. I own a G35, I come on here to admit what I know, I feel I have access to more product information then most on here. Thats all

Re: EASY ECU RESETTING

Infiniti claims the Sedan has 260 HP at the crank,
and the Coupe has 280 at crank. Of course when measured
at the wheels, it is much lower. Duhh....

Re: EASY ECU RESETTING

I contacted Technosquare by email for their opinion of our reset procedures. Here is my request and their answer:

Sent to TS:

Hi at TS,
Can you please confirm the value of resetting the ECU both by the Battery disconnect method, and by the pedal method (depressing the gas pedal 5 times etc)
There seems to be some concern lately here at G35Driver as to the validity of these procedures.
Thanks for any light you can shed on this for me, and for my members at G35Driver.
GSM

And the answer I rec'd:

The battery disconnect method is used for as a quick reset of the ECU. It will NOT clear any codes or clear CELs, however, it will erase the ECU's learned memory and let it start to re-learn again.

The pedal method WILL clear any codes and erase CELs along with resetting the ECU to allow it to re-learn. Unless you have a CEL, you do not have to do the pedal method. Hope this clear things up.

Danny.

Re: EASY ECU RESETTING

"it will erase the ECU's learned memory and let it start to re-learn again."

I never questioned this. What I've always wondered is, "What type of learning occurs, and what time frame does it operate in"

Answers I've received from actual Infiniti techs were that the transmission "learning" happens in a 50 minute/mile time frame and the ECU "learning functions" surrounding air/temp/throttle behaviors happened in the seconds and minutes time frame.

Re: EASY ECU RESETTING

That is why I drive very aggresively after my resets. Lots of
4000-4500 manumatic shifts and WOTs.

Re: EASY ECU RESETTING

That is true. It basically needs to see the vehicle when it is cold and run through until it is hot to set the parameters of the self learning.

Re: EASY ECU RESETTING

I've never been able to get an answer on that one. Never got any reply from Nissan , but by what InfinitiTech says, it happens fairly quickly.

Re: EASY ECU RESETTING

As you can imagine by my username, I'm confused with all the ECU reset instructions. I'm interested in adding the "Z tube" and am curious if I need to worry about the ECU reset. Seems infinititech and you are in similar agreement but I can't discern if you are in complete agreement.

Also, does it invalidate the warranty to add the Z tube? What about a popcharger too?

Thanks for all your info sharing.

Re: EASY ECU RESETTING

The Z tube is a Nissan product that comes stock on our
engine in the 350Z. It will NOT void your warranty. It should
have been stock on our G35s. IMHO

Re: EASY ECU RESETTING

We're in complete agreement. Don't bother unless you really enjoy resetting all your radio stations and can't wait less than 5 seconds for the MAF to adjust.

Re: EASY ECU RESETTING

What I like about my pop charger was that it was ony $105. Honestly I think it's the same effect as the Stillen. The Nismo is probably of added benefit but it's more dough and a pain to change the filter. How much will you pay for 2 HP?
