Question Someone help me with some horsepower math

Obviously, anyone who's been on these boards for any length of time will tell you that adding this mod + this mod + this mod will not given you an exact amount of horsepower. With a Ford Mustang, this might actually be the case, but not for the G35.

With that said, can someone ballpark me as to what I stand to gain with the following to mods. Please take into consideration the mods I already have.

I plan on getting DC Sports headers and some JWT cams.

From those two mods, what do I potential stand to gain?

Thanks,

Jeff

The cams will net you about 20+ rwhp. That's some real noticeable gains we're talking about.
As for headers, it will depend on what other intake/exhaust mods you've done already. Going off what mods you have already, i'd say you should feel a good 6-10rwhp gain at the wheels in the mid-range of the RPM band. That's where headers really perform it seems.

Are you on stock exhaust?

Cams are good for about 10-15whp, but you trade sub 5000rpm performance for 5000-7000rpm performance. This is good for road racing where the car is constantly above 5000rpms, but it is not good for around the town and 1/4 mile acceleration.

Headers are good for 8whp. Hardly worth the effort. Wait until someone comes out with longtube headers. NONE of the currect headers available are of a longtube design. Longtube headers make huge gains (20-25whp).

Last year, Sport Compact magazine tested three 350Zs. One was stock, one had the Nismo exhaust and intake, and then the other had the Nismo intake, exhaust, headers, and cams. The fully outfitted Nismo car was only .2 seconds quicker. The dynos showed the VQ loosing a good bit of low rpm power for topend power. In the end, the car was hardly quicker with $4000 in power mods.

Like it's been said a million times before it's hard to gain big power from these cars. If you want to make big gains like a Mustang, then you'll need to get a Mustang. Having larger displacement and a motor that is a bit more corked up from the factory always results in more substanial gains.

Are the Crawfords not considered longtube headers?

Boosting it isn't really an option. I don't wanna be paying for a fried engine. I've read enough horror stories to turn me away from doing it.

My goal is pretty much to make it as fast as I can with N/A.

Not to rain on your parade, but I feel the cost vs. performance ratio with NA mods is not worth the thousands of dollars you would spend considering that all the gains would be realized only in the upper rpm ranges (4k and up). Nevertheless, if I were you, I'd go for something along the lines of a lightwheel flywheel and clutch and if you want to take the next step, the 350evo 3.9 FD is most definitely a worthy mod if you have the money.

None of that would do much for my automatic transmission.

I felt the same way for a while but the returns you are getting are very minimal compared to the same amount of money invested in a well tuned FI engine.

Mods

Bro, if you get the cash, go for some SAFE boost, and probably
a properlly tuneed motor and Turbo/Supercharger.

Cheers

Alphawerks headers will give u ~17hp. Do a search for these headers bc these are the best headers that I have seen wth dyno proof.

If u want some serious power, you have to go with SC/ turbo. Best option for auto is SC bc its less stress on your engine compared to turbos and bc we are auto we will not lose pw due to lagg from turbo setup. ppl blow their engine bc they get boost happy and want to turn up the boost without tuning and then it goes boom. vortech has tuning unit, SS which is tunable and will allow u to control your A/F. Go with the vortech and u will see around ~380 with mods and ~350 without.

You can get the 6mt 3.5 final drive gearing. You will get a little less mpg but you start the party putting more torque to the wheels.
