Brake Squeal round 3

A lil history first:

I purchased my car in May, a g35 sedan black on black sports blah blah blah blah. Well for the first few thousand miles, it seemed like i was wiping my wheels down everyday, due to the large amount of brake dust created by my brake pads. Well slowly the brake dust decreased, I assume as i broke them in more and more. Well around 6-7000 i started hearing an odd brake squel from my car. I did not take much notice to it because i figured the pads were wet from the rain etc etc. Well the squel became more common and more common. So comming up on my 7250 service i decided to mention it to my service manager. My service manager told me that it was a common noise for cars with metalic brake pads. So fine whatever.... The noise became worse and worse and now happens 2out of 3 times in slow speed braking. Well I went bake to my dealor to have my door noise fixed last week. I complained again, and again i recieved the same its common blah blah blah.the noise really bothers me. I really feel that its premature wear of the brake pads. I know there has been atleast one other instance of that, that ive read online. I decided to have some proffesional brake service men check it out, just for ammunition against my dealor. He said that it was definately pad wear. But that i should be careful with the dealor because they may just shave my pads and cut the rotors allitle, too stop the noise and my complaints which will thus causes even more wear and a premature death to my pads.

So my questions to you guys are;
Is anyone else having this problem?
Is it really a common thing?
Should i just have the dealorship replace the pads or put in a brembo or other high performance brake system in?
Our brake system is critically acclaimed, can these other system really out perform ours? If so by how much etc etc?
What are the typical prices for a good high performance system?

Re: Brake Squeal round 3

Marcel,
Our brakes perform really well for a factory system. I think part of the reason is that the pads maybe a little softer than usual or made with some carbon fibre. If this is the case only time will tell for sure and explains why some of the other members that have some miles on their cars are finding that they have worn out their pads. Let us know what the dealer says, but you may be better off getting some performance aftermarket pads when they become available, just keep in mind that these don't generally last more that 15,000 miles.

I think i am going to try getting the dealorship to change the pads a couple more times. But this time not play Mr. go with the flow. Fail that Brembo here i come. I know someone installed brembos on there sedan. Does anyone know how much that ran him?

Approx U$3,000 I think. G35Spot did it. sells it and is the Car of the Month.

Brake squeeeeeeal comes from the Pads chatteringor vibrating in the caliper. an antisuqeal spray is available. The pads need to be taken off & spray the back plate. Do NOT spray the brake pad itself. Also, if you are doing this, I always bevel the outer edges of my pads. This seems to help in the noise dept too!

Hey fellas - I got the same problem with brake squealing. Mine generally happens when I'm reversing at low speeds. Just fyi - my dealer gave me new pads and its still doing the same thing. They said they put in a service call - but who knows.

Re: Brake Squeal round 3

Marcel,

I have the same problem. first service was to resurface the rotors as there was also a slight pulsing when rolling up to a stop. The fix didn't work, so last service they replaced the rotors and pads. Things were fine for a week, now it is back..possibly not quite as bad. Quite frankly it drives me nuts. I don't think they beveled the edge of the pad. I am calling them today for another service on it. I am not satisfied at this juncture. As far as the metallic pad is concerned, I have driven many other cars with metallic pads and it doesn't seem to be a problem.

Re: Brake Squeal round 3

This all seems weird as I've not had any problems with mine. In my experience brakes squeal due to moisture, just like windshield wipers, and we get plenty of that here where I live, and after I wash the car, never had any problems with squealing at all.

Re: Brake Squeal round 3

The brakes started squealing bad on my wife's G35. The dealer gave the same song and dance. I can't believe Infinifti put semi metallics from the factory. Most OEM pads are organic to insure against squealing. She has less than 10k on the car and the front pads are already down to 20%. And she drives like an old woman. That means very soft pads. Semi metallics are not usually that soft. But the softness does account for the excess dust.

The brake situation has been a real disapointment on an otherwise nice car. I have 30k on the original pads on my Corvette Z06 and I DON'T drive like an old woman. They are just now getting to the point where I need to change them. No dusting either.

I think I'll try a set of the Rotex pads and hope the squealing goes away. I found a very thin film of high temp bearing crease on the back side of the pads can help in the vibration department. Be sure not to get any on the business side of the pad or rotor. I also don't think it's a good idea to resurface a rotor that only has 10-15k on it.

Re: Brake Squeal round 3

haha damn, just like that.
do the brembos have semi metalic? The experience I had with organic was squealing too. I would never buy organic or semi metalic.
