Interior lights not working!

Ever since I got my car back from the body shop my map lights haven't worked, but my door lights and ignition ring light worked. Also, my sunroof wouldn't open or close. So, I assumed that they didn't plug in a harness when they replaced the headliner. I dropped the map light housing down and found that both plugs were plugged in. I then proceded to drop the headliner until I found the plug that wasn't hooked up.

I plugged it back in, but to my surprise it didn't fix anything! I took another look at the sunroof/map lights and noticed that they plugged the plugs in backwards! (side note - this is the ONLY place I've found on the G35 where two plugs are identical).

I reversed the plugs and now my sunroof works great, but NONE of my interior lights work. I remember reading that there aren't any fuses for the dome light circuit, so I pulled out my service manual. Sure enough, not a single fuse!

I also have read that disconnecting the battery over night will fix the problem, BUT my ECU has been 'forced' to learn the idle RPM, and I'm afraid that a total battery disconnect will leave my car not idling right. So, to compromise I took out the BCM over night. I put it back in this morning and still nothing! I don't know what else to try, short of taking the car to the dealership or disconnecting the batter (which will lead me to going to the dealership).

I can also take the car back to the place that did the work, but I don't really feel like having them tear the car apart trying to fix the dome lights, as I have already found out they are incompetant.

It blows my mind that Nissan didn't put some sort of fuse inline with the dome lights!

Check the fuses in the engine bay. They're near the battery.
The lights for the dash (radio, etc) are tied in to the tail-lights, so that if your tail lights are out, you'll know.

I had that fuse blow one time, and all my dash lights went out.

But check that fuse box for the tail-light fuse.

OK, I'm an idiot.

I have a history of making simple problems very complicated. I remember reading people having issues with the dome light and there not being a fuse. I remember reading people leaving their battery disconnected over night and fixing the problem.

Well, I left my BCM out of my car for two days and still no dome light. So, I printed out the BCM wiring/harness guides and I grabbed my Fluke 189 DMM (and a flashlight, if you're keeping track).

I got in the car where I already had the kick panel removed from messing with the BCM. I compared my three harnesses on my BCM to the 5 harnesses I found in the service manual! I quickly realized that they didn't match up, as 3 != 5. I then remembered I have an 03 service manual and an 04 G35. I downloaded the correct service manual section and immediately found that on the 04s there is a THIRD BCM fuse that the 03s don't have. I checked the fuse, it was blown, replaced it and now I have dome lights again!

Putting the car back together I glanced at the fuse door on the kick panel and realized it was labeled, and clearly identified the 'Room Lamp' fuse that I just replaced!!!! If I only would have looked at the kick panel as I was taking it off instead of being so sure that I had to disconnect my BCM! Oh well, problem solved...

And here I thought I was the only one. I'm still not sure if my suggestion had anything to do with it or not, but it sounds like he knows what he's doing!

But glad you got it fixed!!!

No interior lights = faulty BCM.

Replace BCM = problem solved

...considering all fuses are good, of course.
