Aftermarket alarm/RS - Cost?
Aftermarket alarm/RS - Cost?
First off, yes I've searched all the boards, so no flaming.
I've been looking at getting an aftermarket alarm and remote starter installed ('05 5AT Coupe). The two systems I'm looking at are Clifford and Compustar.
Clifford RSX 3.5: I went to Car Toys to check this out, and was pretty surprised by the total cost of $862. Judging by what some on these boards have posted ($500-$700, with people saying that $700 was ridiculous), this seems astronomical.
Compustar 2WSS-AS: I called the only authorized dealer (Accent Auto Sound) in the Denver area for Compustar, and they quoted me $875. Just as with the Clifford, this seems pretty high.
So my questions:
1. Is the information on these boards just out of date, and this is the current price?
2. Are you guys getting lower install prices because you're buying it off of ebay? I don't trust ebay with a product like this because there's no warranty.
3. If these prices are too high, any suggestions on getting them to come down on the install price? Is it even worth trying?
4. The million dollar question: of these two systems, which are you currently using, and would you recommend it?
Thanks guys (and gals).

I am a dealer for both and the prices are a bit steep. Although areas tend to differ, some more some less. Keep in mind if there is minimal dealers in that area they may bump up the price a bit knowing your their only choice (Authorized). Shop around a bit more, even if you have to travel a bit. Get some feedback about other places, and then get the quote and possibly take a trip. It would never hurt to research a bit more. The alarms will always be available.
Of the two Clifford would definately be my choice. DEI has well more than proven themselves to me,as with the majority of my customers.
BTW...I am Very happy to hear that you are cautious about who/where you purchase from. As well as being aware of the penalties of the "online experience".

If al lyou want is remote start - that can be integrated into the factory alarm - about $200 - $300 installed. Directed makes the unit...any shop selling Clifford, etc. should be able to get it...I have one and it works great.
