Smile '04 G35 DYNO results

I just thought I would share, for comparison sake, my dyno run.

I had 27,770 miles, only mod is the Blitz SUS intake w/'homemade' intake pipe (all mods listed in sig). Also, I have no 'before' dyno, as I've had this mod on the car since I bought it in '04.

It's on a Dyno Dynamics dyno, 4th gear pull, ~78°F

234whp, 224lbft
I plan to dyno after each mod, and I'll post just to share results.

Sean

TQ is a bit low. HP is in line with a stock 04 6mt. You dynoed in the wrong gear as well. 5th gear is 1:1 and should have been used for the dyno not 4th.

tq is low compared to what car on what kind of dyno?

we use 4th gear to tune our cars, ... so that's why I used it for a baseline.

Okay, but the results aren't accurate unless done in 5th gear.

since you posted that, ... Just curious as to what dyno you compare it against. Not the DynoJet I hope, ...I saw your posts with the spacer mod for the '05's (nice btw), ... but I just don't want people confusing the charts from one dyno to another (ie. Dynojet vs DynoDynamics). Dynojets are always going to read higher.
"The Dyno Shop", where I dyno, also has a couple Dynojets, ... I will dyno on a dynojet next time as well, just to show the difference.

Sure but I have seen many dynos. I have one from a 04 and 05 and I have seen others. Just saying your TQ is lower than the rest I have seen.

I don't have the owner's manual in front of me, but as listed in the October 05 issue of C&D:

3.79
2.32
1.62
1.27
1.00
0.79

I don't necessarily think his torque is low. His peak torque as a percentage of peak hp is 95.73%, which is right in line with what is should be...

On my car on the other hand, it was 86.78%, much much lower. The wife's 04 5AT, on the other hand, is 96.74%.

Do these numbers mean anything? Hell, I don't know.

Blah,

As long as he continues to use 4th for all his runs, the data is completely accurate. Dynos don't care about the gear as long as you use a higher one. You'd be hard pressed to find 3-4whp difference between running in 4th or 5th AND the higher the gear you use, often times the numbers will be higher. Hell guys on Maxima.org have seen hardly any measureable difference between running 3rd or 4th with the VQ30s ad VQ35s. If you dyno in too low of a gear, say 1st or 2nd, you'll spin the rollers too quickly and the data gets erratic because dyno has a hard time inputting the data so quickly. Using higher gears takes longer to spin the rollers therefore you get a more accurate read. All a dyno uses to get a reading is an ignition wire pickup, a weighted or braked roller, and timer. It simply measures how fast the motor spins the roller in relation to rpm over time.

My shop typically dynos all manuals in 4th unless it's a lower powered car like a Honda or something. With those cars, they use 3rd because it's easier on the car. Trying to take a 1.8 liter Honda motor from 2000rpms at W0T in 4th puts crazy strain on the engine and cooling system because of the amount of time it takes the rpms to build from 2000rpms to ~5000rpms.
