what kind synthetic?

I'm due for an oil change real soon and was thinking
about going 100% synthetic in the auto transmission
and rear differential as well as the Castrol Syntec full
synthetic motor oil. Does any one know the approved of
synthetic for the tranny and differential?

Re: what kind synthetic?

Be very careful with other types of fluid in the tranny. Check with Infiniti first as anything other than the spec'd Nissan fluid could void your warranty.

Gordgee,

Yea, I am treading lightly on this. Don't want to
screw this one up. I see that Mobil 1 offers a synthetic
transmission oil for Dextron III users. Want to get all
the info from the forum members before doing anything.

Re: what kind synthetic?

Give Amsoil a try...............you will be very happy you did. I have used Mobil one all my life in every engine I've owned. Just recently switched. I will never go back. Mobil makes excellent products, but Amsoil has simply got them beat.

Re: what kind synthetic?

My owners manual states:
Use only Nissan Genuine ATF Matic Fluid J.
Do not mix with other fluids. Using automatic transmission fluid other
than Nissan Genuine ATF Matic Fluid J will cause deterioration in
driveability and automatic transmission durability, and may damage
the automatic transmission, which is not covered by the INFINITI
new vehicle limited warrenty.

I know I saw reference to someone here on the forum state they
went synthetic with their AT. From what the manual says, it looks
like unless Nissan makes a synthetic of their own, I won't be
able to find a synthetic that meets these requirements. Does anyone
know about t

Re: what kind synthetic?

Talked to Grubbs Infiniti parts guy: He said our transmission uses
the "new transmission type of fluid" and "would not recommend"
using anything but original Nissan. But said the Royal Purple
Max-Gear Synthetic Gear Oil 75w90 API GL-5 should be just
fine in the differential. I guess I have figured out the answer to my
own questions. Anyone find out differently, let me know.

Re: what kind synthetic?

Just talked to my Infiniti Service Manager about replacing the
differential oil. He said that all the G35s use a synthetic blend
in the differentail and they did not recommend changing to a
full synthetic. My ballon has just been popped! Looks like I can't
(shouldn't) change either the AT or the differential to synthetics.
Rats!

Re: what kind synthetic?

This is just something from my personal observations. I have ALWAYS used Mobil 1 in everything i've owned. Motorcycles, cars, 4X4's, jet ski's, etc.........When I made the switch in my coupe I noticed the following compared to Mobil 1. Improved gas milage by 1.5 mpg, smoother idle and acceleration, seems to have a bit more "umph", and engine idle speed dropped 100 rpm compared to Mobil 1. But to each is own, that is just MY opinion. Give it a try and find out for yourself..................peace MASTERSR6
