Royal Purple or Mobil 1?
Royal Purple or Mobil 1?
I've been using Mobil 1 for a while and I won a Royal Purple oil change at a recent dyno event. I was wonder if I'll notice much of a difference between the two.

I may be completely wrong, but......
I remember an old thread where someone made a point,
that RP did not stand up as long.
It's designed more for racing, and you need to do short interval changes

Randy - Well, I'm an engineer for Shell & I'm running RP in my present motor & will be using it in the AEBS motor that U & I've spoken about so U know where my loyalties lie!
I did run M1 in my Lingenfelter 'Vette as they recommended it & think it's a fine oil as well but I've seen a few dyno tests that show that RP ( plus Amsoil & Redline ) can wring out a few extra ponies ( I'm all for that!!
).
Truthfully, I doubt that U'll notice any difference between the 2 so as long as the viscosities are the same I'd use up the free RP change.
BTW - Man, is it cold over in DFW or what??

Randy - No, my friend!
I'm still over in marginally warmer Louisiana
but my cousin from Brownwood called me to brag about the snow ya'll were supposed to have!!
I'm still waiting on the Arias pistons to be shipped from the coaters to AEBS & then for them to do their magic.
Then John'll get the block & over I'm coming!!!
BTW - I THINK his head guru has the Ferrea valvetrain & bowl-work done on my heads but can't finish them until the block arrives ( he needs to port-match the combustion chambers to the cylinder bores ). Here's a link to the shop John uses for headwork - seems pretty knowledgeable from what I've read. www.theoldone.com
I PROMISE to call ya when I finalize my date to bring the G over & of course, we gotta go riding in each other's G's before I go home!

Randy,
I haven't run Royal Purple, but it should be a good synthetic for an oil change.
I'm running Mobile-1 oil and filter, and changing it every 9,000 miles. I don't seem to have any problems. I've put 11,000 miles on the car since March this year.
When I ran Redline, engine, transmission, and rear differential, in my 94 Nissan truck. I changed it every 6,000 miles and used an Amsoil filter. I used Redline for about the last 80,000 miles I had the truck. Everything seemed to be fine.

I Better Hurry!!!
Randy - I just saw your post about selling your baby so I better hurry up & get mine over to John before ya let yours go!
It's a tough decision but I respect you for making it & hope that someone on this site picks it up & treats it with the same love & care that you did.
