Computer Upgrade

What ever you decide to do on your car hinges on the ECU!!!!
The stock computer will start compensating and you don't want that, you want to maximize. I can't stress this enough. If you do forced induction later (Turbo or Supercharge) you will need to alter the fuel and or management system. More air, and you'll need more gas to make more power and stay reliable. It's basic tuning. You can't change injectors and fuel pumps or fuel pressure (which you will undoubtedly need to do with forced induction) and think the stock ECU is going to be able to handle or manage it. It's not programmed to do so. Even if you change the filter and exhaust you may gain some power but will not realize the full potential with Nissans adaptive ECU. Besides Nissan has always been conservative on first years cars. Look how the old Z stepped up in power to compete with the other Super cars of that time (all tuning). the Maxima has stepped up over the years to stay ahead of Camry and Accord. We can put back in the power power that they detune on purpose. I'de be willing to bet with an EMS as the only part chaged you'd gain power with the right person tuning, safe power. On the Z (G35 coupe has same engine) Nissan will probably wait for Toyota to release the new Supra and do the same thing! Same goes for cams if and when they get develoed by someone. The stock ECU on the Supra even with a piggyback fuel computer would idle rough with cams because the stock ECU could not deal with the extra vacuum accociated with the larger cam profile. With the EMS it idles like glass. With an AEM EMS there is no more limits to what you can do because it can be tuned for, as long as you have someone good to tune it. They have been out for some time now for other cars and they are selling like crazy so I don't think having good programs or finding qualified tuners will be an issue. Besides, once someone has a good base program everyone can share. No wiring, it includes the software, it is configured for all the stock sensors and plugs right in (back to stock in minutes). Thier computer has the same socket the stock ECU does for a given application. You can even hook up a switch to toggle between multiple maps. My Supra had a map for 91 octaine pump gas (best in Cali) and VP C16 (116 octaine leaded) that adds all kinds of timing and power ect. I'll bet the Z and G have some power taken out so chicks who bought them don't break the tires loose right off the blip of the throttle, and detuned engine response from the electronic (non-cable drive-by-wire) throttle body. That can all be put back with the EMS. It can contol NOS, methanol injection, water Inj, whatever. You can even take off the air flow meter and convert it to speed density with a map sensor like a Honda or RX7TT for more air into the engine. Supra's gain 15hp with the air meter gone as it decreases in diameter on the inside. On SR20 motors they use Z TT or Skyline meters so they can get more air in (requires ECU tuning by the way!). My Supra was converted to seed density. Everything still worked also (A/C, cruise control ect.) Add a shift light like the Z.....yes. I can go on for ever, start caling AEM! Let's let them know that the 350Z and G coupe guys are not weak sucks and are a good market to deal in, we want good parts. I used to have a Supra turbo, limited production cars, but the owners are willing to fix them up. Manufactuers don't hesitate to make parts. I sold that car and now have a G coupe. I don't want to go as crazy as I did on the Supra but I love to do an intake, full exhaust, and ECU and go smoke some M3's!

Call them and start asking! I think a lot of other Nissan/Infiniti cars might have the same plug so G sedan, Altima, Maxima, Pathfinder guys may benefit also!
Thanks.

Re: Computer Upgrade

I spoke with one of the sales reps at AEM today, and he stated that they've just finished the intake for the 350Z and the G35 Coupe is just weeks away...

Rear wheel dyno test show a 5-7hp increase throughout the mid-high range, with equal over lap in the low end. No loss in HP at any stop in the range was noted.

I take one... :-)

Re: Computer Upgrade

Cool, it's on my list of things to get. I hope they decide to do one of thier new V2 designs that use sound wave tuning. It looks promising. I would imagine doing an EMS for the Z /G is on thier wish list. Maybe if all the Z and G coupe guys call they will prioritize it. I know an engineer there on the EMS side, but he doesn't make the call as to what gets produced first. I think feed back from their sales department does. He does R&D, test and tuning. It's going to be such a key component to any performance mods if and when they produce it!

Re: Computer Upgrade

The ECU in the sedan makes the 20hp rating difference. I don't know for sure, YET, but I think it's upgradeable to the 280 version. We will soon see... Though the exhaust is also more restrictive on the sedan, it's all in the timing. (You'll HAVE to use premium)
