Interesting day at the Infiniti dealer.

Last week my salesmen from the dealer where I purchased my 05 6MTC called me.
Asked me how the car was treating me, and if I was happy with it. Iv, been very happy with it.
I was able to take it down today and have them put it on there Consult -II to see if they could raise the idle up from 500 to 650 rpms. That's all I wanted done, the car has never run so good with the latest mods. Long story short, We were able to raise the idle up from 480 rpms to 650 without any problems. I then had him check the timing, and again he was able to bump it up to 17BTDC from 14. He could have kicked it up to 20BTDC if he wanted to.
IM not sure where I have read all this information that has said you can't change the idle or timing. The Consult-II gives plenty of room for adjustment. My tach just reads low by about 80 rpms. My engine sure likes that extra timing, and drivability is just wonderful now.
This was worth doing big time. They even did it for free.

Where is a dyno when you need one? She is running with more sauce.
This is getting fun

LOL . . . I see. Me thinks you have some meat mixed in with that extra sauce, as well. Enjoy!

Pasta,
Are you concerned with knock with the advanced timing?

I'm already running a little lean as it is, and I'm concerned with knock already. I hear it *occasionally*, but then again, I'm not entirely sure that what I hear is knock/ping.

So, for the novices amongst us, can you quantify the results of advancing the timing two degrees? Like if I were to do before/after dynos?

Trey

Are you concerned with knock with the advanced timing?
With me being at 4800' above sea level, I can run more (initial) timing. I have never heard ping yet with the 91 octane gas here in Utah.

I'm already running a little lean as it is, and I'm concerned with knock already. I hear it *occasionally*, but then again, I'm not entirely sure that what I hear is knock/ping. Knocking/ping should be picked up by your knock sensors and your ECU should adjust or pull timing out if its a problem. I believe you have 93 octane in your town.(this is good)

So, for the novices amongst us, can you quantify the results of advancing the timing two degrees? Like if I were to do before/after dynos?

If your engine can take the extra timing, You will make more power. When you add some initial timing, it adds to the total timing. In most cases you will feel it in the higher RPMs.
I picked up low end power, drivability and sure could feel it pulling harder over 6000RPMs.
There is a thread on here about the U-TEC and its doing the same thing. IM sure the U-TEC will allow for more tuning options. I would sure try this after my results.

I read they can't. I was standing there today and it was done. He could of raised it up more for me. He just typed in the number he wanted and it was done.

Won't the ECU bring the timing back to where it theoretically would have been programmed to be anyway over time? In other words, the dealers adjustment gets overidden by ECU logic over time, correct?

I asked the question to the tech. What happens if I disconnect the battery to do a reset?
He said not a problem, The new settings are in for good now.

So can you guys explain what exactly is going on. I understand that you are raising the idle, fine, but is there an increase in the voltage going to the spark plugs or something. What makes the car get more power from doing this?

Never heard of this so I'm curious

Variable intake valve timing can be advanced a few more degrees for better performance.

Don't forget about ignition timing. E = m*c^2, so clearly some added ignition advance will make some more power, at least on paper.
