Hyper ground even girls can do it!

I installed Gord's 5 wire kit on my 6MT sedan yesterday. Took about an hour.

I did a "blind" test today. Didn't tell my boy friend, who's an EE, multiple Bimmer owner, track driver/instructor and general all round motor head. Had him drive my car and he noticed differences right away, but I didn't tell him what it was. After the ride, he pops the hood to take a look with the car running. He couldn't believe it. I had talked with him about the whole HG kit theory over a month ago and he had dismissed the whole notion. Now he's a convert.

Bottom line:
Car starts quicker.
My revs are 150 to 200 lower in neutral idle (idles at 400 quiet and smooth as can be).
At any given shift point, my speed is higher. Soon as I shift the revs drop down in a flash--much sooner than before.
Going 50 mph in 3rd gear before shift to 4th, the revs are at 2850 to 2900 tops. Used to be between 3000 and 3100. Even with the A/C on, the car runs smoother, quieter, shifting feels much more fluid.

And yes, even a girl can do this mod without assistance.

Thank you Gord!

Thanks for the feedback, Dreamsenoi. Would you mind re-posting this on the Hyper-Ground Thread?

Done. I just wanted to encourage all the G-girls out there to try it, too, and thought that message might get lost in the 30 pages of the thread. Please excuse the redundancy.

Waiting on the gas tank to go empty to prove to my dad that we get more kms per tank. I really do think I get more...we'll wait and see with all that stop and go traffic. Highway runs are a definite advantage.

It's still a G thang!!

Re: Hyper ground even girls can do it!

man, my gas milage is so crappy, its always around 350miles per fillup (17.5 US gals) which is 20mpg
I drive 50/50 highway/city.
Basically, i havent noticed any mpg improvements w/ the 5 wire kit.

Re: Hyper ground even girls can do it!

Would that void the factory warranty on the car? I'm thinking of getting the kit for my car also!!

It should not void the warrenty! The Grounding Kit is offered
as an option for the G35 in Japan.

Infinitig20:

Your question and a few others can be answered on The Hyper-Ground FAQ thread.

Must be in your mind. Even if you added twin turbos, it would not change the RPM's at 50mph. Only a gear ratio change can do that.

Import Tuner did a back to back dyno in their Sept. issue, with a 350Z with the Hyper grounding kit, and gained .7 hp. I can't dispute all the rave reports about increases in smoothness, and Import Tuner spoke highly of the kit. But it really can not be expected to deliver much in power, Certainly no-one can actually feel an increase of .7hp (+2lbs torque), with the possible exception of someone driving a Fiat 500.

Re: Hyper ground even girls can do it!

My BF made a similar comment when I told him my observations. Now, I don't pretend to explain the how or why. All I can tell you is I'm a quantitative person who does research for a living so people can use objective evidence to make decisions.

I knew what the revs were at each speed when I shifted pre-HG kit. And I observed and recorded what they were after the HG. It's three weeks later, and the observations I made right after installation remain consistent. So when my BF ( a Bimmer car freak and electrical engineer) drove my car after telling me this just couldn't be, I told him to make his own observations and report them to me. He came back and said "I don't get it, but it is definitely revving lower at higher speeds."

So, I'm simply reporting observations here. I leave it to someone else to figure out why.

Re: Hyper ground even girls can do it!

Put mine on this weekend, took about an hour to do it. Easy. The car seems to be running a bit smoother, overall I am pretty happy with it.
