I just got off the phone with my infiniti dealer and i was explaining to the service lady that my car makes a grinding noise for a split second when i turn the car on every morning. She said it's my ABS system turning on? now i dont know what that sounds like but is this correct?

 

The ABS system does a self test that sounds like that, but not when you start the car. The self test happens when you first get up to 3 or 4 mph as you drive away.

 

this happens when i turn the key like 1 or 2 seconds later i hear this grinding noise for like 1 sec. then its fine... but it only does it sometimes not everytime i turn it on.... mine is an 03 by the way if that helps.

 

My car performs the ABS self test as the car initially reaches 10 mph.

 

so this means it something else right? anyone got an idea what it might be? i want to get this checked tmrw when i go to the dealer i just dont know what to say since i dont know much about cars

 

Hey Heads up. My dealer had my G apart for two days before he found out what that noise was.

Only happens when the car is warm and at startup. Dealer claimed it was the ABS Break Actuator that needed to be replaced.

Dealer replaced it and it is better but not completely gone. Funny thing the loaner I had also had that problem.

Much like the Bose HU problem. Both a pain in the A$$

 

Turn on your radio when you start you car...that will fix it.

 

mine only does it like a second after its on and i only hear it for a split second ..it doesnt do it everytime though...

 

Thats the one. Sounds like its coming from behind the Tach

mine does that to, but only on cold starts. Sounds like its coming from the tranny.

 

My 05 does it on cold starts also.

 

same here its only on cold starts...must be normal
