I'd sooner take it up the *** from a 8ft. black man than pay that for a header install.

In that case, forget the Vaseline . . . You get the large economy bottle of astroglide.

I used to be the Service Manager at a large Harley-Davidson dealership. Some of you guys remind me of most of my former customers. You don't have any idea what's involved in doing a particular job, but you know exactly how much you should be charged for doing it. Yeah, right.

Maybe not, but I damn well know if everybody else is getting headers installed for 300-500, $1000 is rapage.

Maybe so, maybe not. As has been pointed out here, these are probably the most difficult of all the header brands to install. Then there is the fact that all dealerships are going to have a higher hourly rate than just about any after-market shop. There are many valid reasons for that, which I'm sure most here understand. If you want something installed that's not a stock part, you probably shouldn't be going to the dealer in the first place. It's not what he's there to do. Any speed shop would probably be a better choice, 'cause that's their specialty, and they don't have to charge the same hourly rate, either. Most after-market shops won't stand behind their work to the same extent that a dealership will, though. Everything costs something.

1000? What else do you get with that?

They better have a waiting room with a huge sofa, room service with 5-star cuisine, a bottle of Don P poured for you by at least 5 hot women taking turns giving you lapdances and who knows what else while you smoke a 100 dollar cuban cigar!

Did anybody think that they might be trying to tell you that they don't want the job, but, if you insist, they're going to make it worth their while? I never did that, never.

How bout posting some useful insight such as...

You might need to drop the tranny to do headers.. If you go to a place that charges 100 an hour.. that's almost 800 bucks.

it's only an 8hr install if you lift the motor.

Whew!!! ...1G is kinda steep for a header install. However, having said that, I have most of my aftermarket work done at the Dealer (Tischer Nissan, Laurel, MD), and they do great work! Hourly rates are OK; bottom line is that I get a Dealer to do my work and stand behind it with a guarantee! Now, I'm having a set of Strupp Headers installed this coming Monday - - $500; I figured that to be a pretty good price. This shop (Altered Atmosphere, Gaithersburg, MD) specializes in G35 Coupes, 350Zs, etc.

I can't wait to pick my Coupe up on Monday - - and I'll be there for the baseline dyno!!! Ain't life grand???!!!!????!!!

Meanwhile, my FX is purring in the garage, while my '68 Rolls is at a Custom Paint Shop undergoing a complete makeover; more details soon!!!

One more thing.
Today I asked the same tech about crawford header & Cats installation.
He said $1000 is only for the header, and there will be another $200 for the CATS... this is crazy.
Im thinking about installing them at grubbs or need some more research before.
BTW
Here, austin, has only one dealer, and every Gs I've ever seen here were bone stock.
