Re: How Light Can You Go?

I like these kind of threads, weight reduction is one of my favorite things to do. I've calculated some thing you can do for the G, taking out the spare and the jack, changing seats to sparco, changing to lighter exaust, running less than half tank, putting light weight pullies, changing to lighter rims and some grippy tires( i would advise getting custom made rims, it's really hard to find rims under 10lbs) And all that should drop you to about 3100lbs give or take. I know some more stuff but i can't share all my secrets, what would i be left with then? and also it wouldn't hurt to lose a couple of pounds yourself

Re: How Light Can You Go?

HAHA lose a couple of pounds. I would never change the seats in my car. They are too nice.

Thanks - Joey Avino

Not hard at all...The usual bolts and then install a universal slider and the seats...I went with Sparco Milano 2 seats, and it was an easy install...

Re: How Light Can You Go?

Posted this on another board but thought it might fit here also.

Here is an analysis using cartest software. The software is pretty sophisticated and has a whole lot of parameters like cooeficients of friction and driveline losses. I took the defaults on these parameters because I don't have the exact data.

As you might have guessed I am a big believer in low weight = high performance. The last chart shows the effect of a 15 hp increase but stock weight. Remember, adding power increases acceleration but reducing weight improves accelleration, braking, handling, and even fuel economy.

TEST DATA:

3550 LBS

3450 LBS

3350 LBS

3250 LBS

3550 LBS AND 275 HP, 275 TQ

Re: How Light Can You Go?

ok guys, don't for get weight distribution

dropping 100 lbs off the nose of the car will change the steering characteristics

dropping 100 lbs off the back will reduce traction and affect steering

i dropped 200 lbs off my car so far (counting my 30 lb diet over the summer)

i need to get adjustable sway bars next so I can tweak the steering just right.
