My apologies, I'll stay out of this one and stick to the other thread. I just can't resist threads on lightened pullies... it's like seeing a grandma getting robbed on the street, you just have to step in and do something!

im sorry you feel that way mechee, but i'll waste my money on whatever i feel like. If i feel a difference in performance then that's all that matters to me. Just wondering why you're so against lightened pullies???

You're right in that all that matters is how it feels to you, not whether it actually made more power.

I am against pullies because it is one of the few mods where you can prove beyond a shadow of a doubt with simple physics exactly what gains can be had, which of course contradict that of those who sell them for profit. Intuitively, to me lightened pullies always seemed like they would be worthless given the incredibly small mass change being so slowly accelerated. There was enough debate over this with friends that I decided to go to the trouble to actually prove it and write up the physics behind it so people could understand why this was the case. Given that I have put this effort in, I of course become drawn to threads about pullies.

You really can't dispute the physics. If one would like to claim that there is more power being had than I claim, you need to find the error in my assumptions or the physics. Until then, I can easily explain what you feel as placebo and dyno variability, but you can't disprove my claims. But you can believe whatever you want. But don't you want to believe the truth, and filter your butt dyno to detect real gains? Some prefer ignorant bliss, but not me.

ok mechee, i have a new found respect for you after installing 2 of the 3 pulley's today. I didnt want to pull the alternator so i said "fvck it" I got the water pump pulley and crank pulley on after pulling the fans to get more room.... test drove it.... i dont feel much of a difference on my butt dyno. But hey, it was only $118 so i'm not mad about it, plus it was a good experience installing them. If i had to do it all over again, i definitely would NOT. i geuss you really cant prove the physics wrong. i was wrong, sorry for doubting you and your research

u might want to reset your ecu. I know the UR pulleys say to wait a week for the ecu to adjust to the pulleys. Also u should install ALL 3 or u going to throw the balance off or just install the crank pulley.

well there's no way i'm takin the alternator out, too much work for just that pulley, if anyone else suggests having all 3 and not just the 2 then i'll take off the water pump pulley and just use the crank pulley.

mechee, car to chime in on this? is it ok to use just the 2 or do i need all 3? should it be just the crank or all? no in between. thanks

I have new found respect for you for being able to evaluate the performance improvement amidst the desire to find gains.

The crank is the only pulley that can cause any harm since it is directly coupled to the vibration dynamics of the crankshaft. The combination of pullies makes no difference, run any combination that you so desire. If the crank pulley was underdrive, and they gave you an oversided alternator pulley to compensate so as not to underdrive the alternator, then you would want to run them all. But since they are just lightened, it makes no difference.

But given that the stock pulley mass acts as a tuned damper to minimize crank and bearing stresses, I'd honestly just put it back on since it's not giving you any real power, and sell the pullies to recoup the cost for other mods.

thanks, i dont think i'll sell them just because of the pure fact that it was a pain in the azz to get them in, i dont want to do it again. I was just asking because i can get the water pump pulley off and back on in 15 mins. plus it was only $118 so no biggie for me.

Did you use a pulley puller to install them? If so which one do you have?
Thanks
