HELP, Rev limiter not working?!

On my way to work this morning, I punched it in 2nd gear and before I knew it (wasn't paying attention) my tach needle was registering 7200 RPMs which is 200 above redline (I have '05 6mt). Question is, have you guys gone above redline and when does the rev limiter kick in? In my old 5spd accord, the gas to the engine would cut out everytime I went over redline. How bad is this for my engine (first time i've done this). I have 5K miles on her, only one oil change with regular castrol.

Don't worry about it. Since its the only time you did it, it's not a problem.

But more importantly, what about the limiter?

Having the same model, I'd like to know as well, without finding out firsthand.

With my modded '97 Mitsu. GSX, I first found a lack of rev-limiter (7100rpm without issue) and started to ask the right people. The GSX had no rev- or speed-limiter, unlike the lesser models. I later verified the lack of speed-limiter with a tire-speed-rating-limited (and reality-induced) 152mph (GS, RS, GS-T limited to 135 or 145mph).

It would be nice to know if/where the limiters are, as I'm not likely to go looking for them anymore.

i've taking it to 7.2k also on a 05 6mt. from what i've heard its a soft rev limiter that doesnt hit until 7.3k.

Mine goes about 200rpms above the indicated redline before the limiter kicks in.

I revved mine to 7300rpm one time, i was overpassing someone and floored it in second. I also was not paying attention when it happened. But doing it just once brings no harm......but do not make a habit of it.

I hit my limiter all the time, it is a soft limiter, it seems to hit at right around 7,300, but power falls off right before it hits.

Redline & revlimiter do not have the same setpoint.

Redline is for your max rev indication
Revlimiter is to protect the powertain if you pass redline

Assume that like the speedometer the tach is optimistic!

Analog gauges have a built in hystersis and are damped and only accurate to maybe 3% at best.

Question: I used to bounce the rev-limiter on my S2000 without fear (the retainers don't fracture) how about the G35? Any reported problems from people bouncing off the rev-limiter.
thanks

ive got an 04 6mt and tonight i also went past redline, around 7k or so not paying attention. i was stopped at a light, when a guy from work pulls up beside me and starts reving and looking at me. so i decide to give it hell on green because this guy never shuts up about my "ricer". even though the road was a little wet, i dump the clutch at about 5k. obviously i start spinning and i redline for a few seconds. it sounded like my needle was bouncing, kinda like a racecar at the staring line. but my passenger said he was watching the needle the whole time and it stayed around 7k. my tach starts to redline at 6500. was that noise the rev limiter, or does the 04 g even have one?
