Catchin' Oil

The oil collected in the cans is just heated, atomized, motor oil. Most of you guys are not old enough to remember, but most cars of the pre smog days (1965 and back) just had a crankcase vent right on the side of the block. You could see that cloud of oil vapor coming out from under a lot of cars. There were open vents on each valve cover also. That's why motors were so damn dirty, the oil would condense on all the surfaces of the motor. Now it's all sucked into the intake and burned.

Like so many of the modifications I read about here, this seems to be about as mechanically useful as "**** on a boarhog," or "pockets on a shirt tail!" I don't mean to be insulting, but the level of compulsive and addictive modifications is endless and the amount of effort used to modify a car in areas where such modifications have relatively limited relevance is dumbfounding.
OK so this may start a little war here, but IMO, theres looking after your car and then there's obsessive compulsive looking after your car.... is this one of those moments????

It's very possible that we're exaggerating the potential damage. Lexus engines were notorious for years for sludge problems as a result of a poorly designed oil feedback system. The VQ is considered by Wards to be one of the top 5 engines in the world for several years now (with folks now getting >200,000 miles w/o mods as many place in them now)-- it didn't get there thru aimless and pointless design. I don't think this mod will hurt; however, I also am a proponent of using mods that actually improve appearance and/or performance. And more importantly, I'm less a proponenet of mods with limited vlaue. My question was really more of one surrounding the necessity for thei mod when so many others would be more useful? My apologies, my intent was not to have a battle with you or anyone, more so just to express an opinion counter to what was here.
