Angry Gas door got jammed!!!

I had the most stressful experience tonight. After driving in the worst traffic ever coming back from work,I reached the E line on my fuel indicator. I barely made it to the gas station and guess what:the gas tank would not open.
I did not know what to do. Called Infiniti and they said they will tow me tomorrow. After 30 minutes I tried again and it miraculously opened!
Should I still take it to the dealer to prevent this from happening. What causes this? Anything I can do if it happens again?
Thanks for your input.

I posted this two days ago on the same subject. Just un-snap the trunk liner and reach in and grab the notched end of this.

the motor belongs in a slot car, not a fuel latch release. I couldnt replicate it for the dealer, so I just relubed mine and it hasnt acted up in months. Alternately, it can be unplugged quite easily and left unlocked.
