Starting engine without a starter motor...
I'm reading a book on Engine Management Systems and came upon something I thought was interesting... they were talking about the ever expanding uses for the Engine Control Unit.
"Some of the newest BMWs can fire up the engine without a starter motor. The ECU identifies the exact engine position, injects fuel in the appropriately positioned cylinder, and then fires the spark plug."
That's pretty interesting... the car would be lighter... cheaper... less complex... whatdayathink?
