If you really want to take her somewhere nice, check out:

Pricey but worth it... Matthew's (san marco) or Medure's (ponte vedra)

For chinese, check out blue bamboo (southside), I personally like thai food... lemon grass (bay meadows) is a really good place, and nice decor.

For mexican, (or texmex) not really romantic, but check out west inn cantina in the riverside area. really fresh food, GREAT menu.

Other great places that aren't that expensive are
Biscotti's (riverside) or BB's (san marco/downtown) <same owners> nice decor, romantic, and affordable... awesome desserts!
Bistro Aix or Cafe Carmon (san marco)
Italian, check out Cafe Andiamo (ponte vedra)

I took my girl for her birthday to Matthew's (http://www.matthewsrestaurant.com) and it was really an exquisite dining experience. Four stars right there. Place in a quick order to tiffany's for a little trinket, and bam! guaranteed win, hehe.

Remember, all those places that you mentioned are pretty decent, but they are kinda commercialized/over crowded. If you wanna make it special, take her somewhere different, somewhere you can actually hear each other talk.

I second Mathew's, BB's, and Bistro Aix...

I always love Sarnelli's in OP for Italian...

Zaitoon's (Mediterranean) on San Pablo and Atlantic.
Cobblestone on San Pablo and Atlantic
Mezza Luna (Italian) On first street at the beach, great atmosphere and great food/wine mezzalunaneptunebeach.com
Thai Room (off of 3rd street at the beach)
Tento Churrascaria (brazilian first street at the beach tentochurrascaria.com)
Fiddler's Green in St Augustine is really nice and a popular spot for anniversaries.
Dwight's Restaurant (on Penman Ave @ the beach) I've never been but from what i hear the food is remarkable and its a very nice place.

Rain Tree (St Augustine) http://www.raintreerestaurant.com/ I myself have heard great things about this place, never went, but i did recomend it to a couple who are some of my best friends and they said it was extremely good (food and service wise) and the atmosphere was OUTSTANDING. they still to this day talk about going back for an anniversary.

you could also do Ruth's Chris, which is one of the more popular upscale places here in town.

thats off the top of my head, i like to try out new resturaunts here and there. hit me up on aim, i'll give you more info about these places.

and also as dragmode said, Lemon Grass and Blue Bamboo are very nice places as well.

Definitely check out the places I mentioned. They are not really expensive. (except for matthew's and medure's) every where else is very affordable. I frequent a lot of the restaurants in the san marco/riverside area because I work out here, but also because they have an eclectic / charming feel to them. Not to mention, the food is awesome.

oh yeah, sorry for the confusion. When I said place an order w/ tiffany's. I meant the jewelry store, hahaha... Not sure if your gf is into that kind of stuff, but I haven't met a girl yet that wouldn't like to receive that little blue box. heheh... plus they have some affordable stuff.

have fun checking out the new places. There are a ton of great restaraunts in jax, you just have to look. If you need any directions, feel free to PM me.....Jon

ps- I second Tento's churrascuria out at the beach too! If you're a meat lover. mmmm mmm good!! I'm actually going to Texas De Brazil in orlando this weekend.

Bistro Aix ain't cheap either...

Oh, a cool place--especially if you want to dress casually and then head to the beach at night, is Gypsy Cab Company in St. Auggie...It is my all-time favorite place to eat and it's very hip and casual. They also have veggie-friendly eats for your conscious mate...

and dragmode, she's a jewelry type of person but she is picky..but i know her fave colors.

but im not the popping the question haha if that what you meant.

more like, i am trying to convince her to trust me and to see that i really care about her. She's kinda holding herself back. i know she likes me. but it's looong *** story.

so i'm trying some tricks to make her do her move.

thanks guys! this should be a thread for the guys in Jacksonville to look up to for restaurant ideas!!

I live in st. augustine and can tell you rain tree is very good but fairly expensive

Le Pavillion is also very good small French Restaurant about the same price as raintree

Also if you down here 95 Cordova is excellent its the most expensive but is a very classy place

Id gree with Ruth's Chris is great and if you want seafood right nearby is The Charter House all good restaurants

I actaully ate at Roy's for the first time Friday night and it was really, really good. I've been wanting to try it for some time, and the Hawaiin/Asian idea was just great...
