well there are a couple of different reasons not to file you taxes right away this year.
1. AMT patch
2. we thought the rebate would play a role in filing your tax return
1. In short..The AMT patch only affects those that are going to get hit by it. Congress passed this bill so late in the year that IRS didnt have time to create the forms for the new bill they will not be ready until sometime in march from what I am hearing so if you think you might get hit by AMT it is worth while to wait to file because if you file now you might have to file an amended return later.
2. When this whole mess of the stimulus package started the easiest way to get money to the people was through taxes so there was at first talk of 800 per person and 1600 for families and the it would be claimed on your tax return. Dems and Republicans fought it out and now everyone is getting 600 per person and 1200 for families, with additional money if you have childeren. It looks like now that it is just going to be a rebate check that is going to be mailed sometime in June so dont plan on the check coming anytime soon.
Remember what we think is fast is not the case for our government.

So as I understand this, this $600-1200 economic stimulus check which every American taxpayer will receive is separate from the typical refund check one receives after filing taxes and itemizing deductions?

does this in anyway reflect your W2 at all? or bottom line, everyone who pays taxes will get 600 dollars regardless of earnings? confused, because i was going to file my W2 asap to get that money lol...than i heard about this...
thanks WILD for clearing it up a little more for me, but im completely stunned that they are doing this! my friend said back when Bush was elected he gave people liek 50 bucks or something...but i never got that, so i was seeing if i am eligible for this.

It will not effect the W-2, this is seperate from taxes its a rebate check. Basically its a check that the Gov. is going to send you sometime in June....It is not for everyone only for those who have worked in the past year and that have or have a w-2 even if you owe no taxes at all.
