JAX - video card help

k so last week the power blipped and my gaming pc monitor stopped displaying. this happened a few months back and messing with the vid card fixed everything. however, no luck now. im hoping its just the vid card and not the motherboard.

anyways, what i need is if someone has an extra vid card lying around for me to test out and see if its just my card. i can grab it tomorrow at boba blends or whatever.

if thats the problem, im looking to buy this:

EVGA GeForce 8800 GT Video Card - 512MB DDR3, PCI Express 2.0, SLI Ready, (Dual Link) Dual DVI, HDTV, Video Card

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...&Sku=E145-8832

thanks!

I can't help you with another card, but with that specific card you can usually catch a better deal on it, if you don't mind mail in rebates. check www.slickdeals.net

If you can't find a spare video card to swap in, see if your motherboard has built-in VGA. Ypu wouldn't want to use it long term, but it will help you decide if your card is shot.

Might also try replacing the monitor if you have a spare...

tried that already, just has an old serial bus connection. no spare monitor either. i figure a spare card would be the easiest to test.

Might want to think about getting a UPS after you get the problem fixed. They aren't too expensive and they can save you a lot of headaches/money... especially if you live in Florida...

the 8800GT is the best bang for the buck card lyndon, if not look into the 9600 cards.

im sure youve tried already, but unplug your video card and plug it back in, and listen to see if your computer starts up, if it does than its porlly your video card, what are u using now by the way?

thanks for the advice guys. ya john, i was surprised it screwed me up.

this pc is about 3 years old - its running a 6800 gtx from when it was the **** lol. its pretty decent still for new games. i thought about throwing in a sick card but i wouldnt really use it. i still play an old game but might get into cod4. ive got it just sitting here unopened HA. anyways, ill get the 8800 gt shipped for under $150 with my sis' discount so cant complain.

I'm a hardcore gamer, I've got all the latest games and the 8800 works perfectly.
