Yeah, my record is clean. I received a ticket for speeding back in Feb '06 and one sometime in '03. I took the traffic classes both times.

I can tell you right now despite what your parents might think, you should NOT walk into that courtroom without a lawyer.

I bunch of friends of mine that used to go motorcycle riding were out on our usual run heading towards the Ocala National Park. Well sure enough, this country bumpkin cop who had nothing better to do pulled half of them over for "speeding" but no gun/radar to prove it and "assume speed" to be 30 miles over. Because they were lined up two by two but staggered, he claimed it was racing. When he tried to advise the officer they weren't speeding and running almost side by side was for SAFETY not racing. And sure enough, one of them got upset enough (and stupidly) and got into the cops face and he was arrested. It was a mess to say the least. This was thankfully BEFORE the new laws that were passed about racing and all the charges were eventually dropped but not before a lot of headaches. I for what ever reason stayed home that day and thank god for that but I can tell you this is a shoot first, ask question later state when it comes to this sort of stuff.

Think about it, the cost of a lawyer to put this behind you or a lifetime of aggravation.

You said the trial was Friday. That's the day after tomorrow. You are running out of time if you plan to get a lawyer before the trial. I would still arrange to hire a lawyer.

If you don't hire a lawyer, and something bad happens... What's the first thing you're going to think of... I should have hired a lawyer... Right?

At least talk to a lawyer before the trial.

You will need a lawyer for sure.
If you get convicted of racing you will automatically loose your license for a year and get charged a fine.
I got a ticket for racing a few years back and hired a lawyer and then he got it done to wreckless driving and it was still an 800 dollar ticket, plus the crazy lawyer fee.
The only thing that doesnt make sense is how he could even write that you were racing if the other car wasnt pulled over or chased or anything of that matter, thats a little odd..

If you hire a lawyer you wont have to go to that court appearence either, it will most likely stretch out over a couple months.

Fight it. No radar, plenty of questions to ask him and see what he answers and leave him looking like the @ss he probally is.

Because I wasn't racing. I can't even tell you what kind of car it was that I passed.

Well, after a very stressful day of talking to lawyers at the last minute and even driving downtown to meet with one, I lucked out bigtime....so far! My mom remembered she gets legal benefits through her work. So after some calls and faxes, I have a lawyaer representing me from Lake Mary...and my attorney fees are covered by her benefits! And unless I receive a phonecall tomorrow, I don't have to appear in court. All that's left is to fax some more paperwork tomorrow and hope for the best.

I forgot to mention, I was quoted $1500, $2500, $1000, and $250 (I really couldn't trust a firm that is charging so much less than everyone else).
