New Rear Tires... Understeer... VDC Light

Okay, I finally gave in and bought new rear tires as opposed to upgrading my wheels and tires at the same time (saving money for other things). My problem is this:

The new rear tires I got have a better traction rating than the fronts and the fronts have 5/32 on the inside and 2/32 on the outside.

That said, each time I'm on a ramp at around 50MPH I feel my front tires slip (at around .7 G's?) and the VDC light comes on and cuts my throttle back.

Am i experiencing the effects of front tires that are too low or do I have another issue?

For reference I just got Bridgestone 960AS Pole Position tires on the rear and I still have the RE40 stockers on the front. Front tires have around 25k miles on them. Alignment has also been checked and is within spec.

Thanks in advance!

25,000 miles is a lot for front tires on a G35. Don't they make a lot of noise?

Sounds like your front tires are worn out and your rear tires are new and a different compound. Seems natural that the front tires would give way first.

VDC is just acting normally. Understeer on an Interstate ramp is usually not a good thing. You could turn the VDC off, but I wouldn't recommend it. Sounds like you need a new set of front tires.

Yeah vdc off + bald tires = not good. especially taking turns at higher speeds. def not a good idea.

this is expected since you have more grip in the rear as opposed to the front, hence the understeer, kinda the opposite of before you got new rear tires where you were prob oversteering more

just take it easy around turns until you get some new front tires

what exactly are your front camber specs? "in spec" is a pretty large range with infiniti. like everyone said, sounds like your rears are overpowering your fronts in grip. time for new front tires...

I was thinking the same thing. Don't crash! If you're setting VDC off without meaning to, it's kinda savin your ar$e. I've only lost control of my car one time (in my 02 solara) and it was on a wet interestate ramp. Don't mess with those!

Thanks for the replies thus far. I got my alignment done at Firestone so I will have to check the sheet they gave me. If our cars don't have any means of adjusting the suspension, how do they fix the alignment?

Another idea I had floating in my head.... since I hate the fact I can't rotate my tires, would it be a bad idea to get another set of rear tires and put them on the front?

Actually, after a little research... this website says my front and rear wheels are both 8" wide? If that's the case I can just get the same sized tires on front and rear and rotate my heart out!

Is this a bad idea?

Top gear

With over-steer, you do not see the tree that kills you

I wouldn't do that. But that's just me. Why not just buy two new fronts?

Edit: you need new wheels
