My New Project... Advice needed
My New Project... Advice needed
Long story short... I'm putting my car on 4 jack stands tonight in my garage and taking my wheels and tires to firestone tomorrow to get the tires removed. I'm then headed somewhere to get my wheels sandblasted, the road rash filled and then painted or powder coated. I'm then headed back to firestone to purchase 2 new front tires and have the new rear i bought put back on. I'd like to knock a few things out this week while my car is on stands and un-drivable.
1. I need to get my rotors resurfaced and my pads replaced. Do any of you know where I can get (Hawk or equivalent) brake pads locally so I don't have to wait for shipping?
2. I'm undecided whether to have my wheels painted or powder coated. Any opinions here?
3. My wheels have some deep scars where metal was removed... will bondo work to fill this in? (obviously a question for the pro, but if any of you have experience with this method please give me your input!)
Thanks in advance for your input.

What wheels are these? OEM 19's?
1. See if Orlando Infiniti can hook you up, or you can see if you can get them shipped overnight by a shop on here.
2. I would rather powdercoat them IMO but if you don't want to spend as much just paint them.
3. idk...I would think it would be some sort of bondo

Thanks for the fast responses. I'm just going to resurface the rotors for now to save some cash (after spending 1k on tires). I'll look around at the sponsors on here and see what they have to offer.
The wheels won't take too much work. Alot of sanding, some bondo to fill the rashes, more sanding, a few coats of primer, and then paint and clear. You could save the money and enjoy doing the work yourself if you're a DIY kind of person.

+1... I will eventually end up going through a similar process with my Racing Harts (filling rash then powder coating) but I wouldn't waste my money on OEM wheels.
1. depends how bad it is. resurfacing might just be a waste of time and $. pads try infiniti like they said or b2auto in tampa might have some, they ship fast.
2. powdercoat, its stronger. if you have the wheels prepped ahead of time it saves a lot of $.
3. idk about bondo but im sure they make something for wheels.

I'm taking my wheels tomorrow to B & J Powder Coatings in Orlando. I chose them for a few reasons:
1. It's a family business
2. The owner has a lot of experience and attention to detail (he told me he had $175k invested in an old model Buick)
3. He is a one stop shop... he will weld the nasty scrapes I have, sand the smaller scrapes, sandblast the wheels, and powder coat without having to ship my wheels all over. This is a HUGE plus to me.
4. Price. He quoted me around $80-100 per wheel... not bad at all considering the work that's involved.
I'll keep everyone informed on the outcome... I plan to have my wheels back and tires mounted by tomorrow late in the day. For now I have to ride in my girlfriend's Elantra :-(
If anyone is available to help me bum a ride from UCF to Oviedo around 4:30pm I'd appreciate it!

Talk to kevin@us-autotech same guys that dose the stage two upgrades that JR350z08
noted earlier he can get you some pads. That does sound like a good deal for the powdercoating. Extreme powdercoaters in orlando is also a good place to look into if that falls through. If you ever need a hook up on tires I have a friend that owns a tire shop in Deland called Highland quality tires(bit of a drive if you not on the east side of town) but he can get some good deals.
